Trattoria Trippa deserves all the praise. I’m so glad I made a reservation for our trip to Milan. It was the best meal we had on our trip of Italy (Florence, Venice and Milan). The servers were friendly, polite and mindful of any food allergies. Every dish was executed perfectly from the drinks (we ordered a coke, but that lemon peel really brought out the flavour of the coke!) to the starters (the olives and veal), to the mains (fish and veal cooked to perfection), the dessert (tiramisu was light and airy and had such a nice mix of aroma and right amount of sweetness) and the espresso (a fruity blend of coffee beans) to end the meal. Truly another level of what I thought I knew about Italian cuisine and the flavours I’ve tasted before this. Trattoria Trippa has set the bar high.

This restaurant is famous because it is almost impossible to get a table: they open reservation at 12noon on the first day of each month for the subsequent month, and by 12.05 the restaurant is already fully booked. The restaurant is recommended by the major guides (Michelin, slow food..) and by a variety of newspaper articles (including the new york times, the guardian and of course corriere della sera), blogs, and social media posts. I had consequently mixed feelings: on the one hand I had high expectations, on the other hand I was a bit suspicious of the hype.
After finally managing to secure a table, l must say that the universal praise is fully deserved. The food is uniformly outstanding. Top quality ingredients, prepared sometimes in a perfect simple way (such as lagoon mini shrimp fried to perfection, or fried tripes with rosemary), sometimes in traditional combinations with a modern twist (piemontese style cabbage rolls stuffed with goat meat and oyster mushrooms). Flavors perfectly combined, almost irresistible. Not very long but very interesting and fairly priced wine list. Extremely attentive service – the bread basket immediately replaced as soon as it is empty, the waiters always smiling and charming. Tables not too close to each other and very quiet environment thanks to effective sound absorbing panels on the ceiling. Funky atmosphere and consistently pleasant feel. Highly recommended – if you can get a table!

Trippa was excellent. The mood was electric in this small and unassuming restaurant. Wait staff were good humored and gracious. Realizing not everyone is an expert in Italian wine they asked a few good questions and offered a couple of suggestions with descriptions and I enjoyed my choice. The food was all I had hoped for. The trippa fritta was new to me and a real salty treat. Memories of my mom’s dishes came back to with the lemache and the vitello tonno put a version we had the night before to shame. The classics trippa in vitello ragu was a joy as was the zuppa.

With the need to reserve a month in advance and hearing from people around me how amazing this place is, I was super excited to finally try it. Unfortunately, the experience didn’t quite live up to my expectations. For what’s considered an average price for a trattoria, I expected the portions to be a bit more filling, even though the flavor was very good. I don’t think I’ll come back, and in my opinion, it doesn’t really deserve a 4.7 rating or all the hype.

Getting a reservation at Trippa is such a challenge and now I completely get why. So well deserved. Excellent Vitello Tonnato (fork-tender meat with a delicious mousse-like sauce) and their signature Tagliatelle Burro is HEAVENLY (fresh pasta with a satisfying chew and the silkiest butter sauce). Every bit worth the fame. We ordered 3 plates and wiped them clean. Don’t miss the cheesecake for dessert if it’s on. An excellent dining experience from start to finish, and the lovely staff made it that much more enjoyable. If you can get a table, go go go.

I live in central west New South Wales, Australia. I can’t wait to try this place. I first saw Trippa on Stanley Tucci’s Italy, Lombardy. I’ve watched a LOT of food/history/architecture/culture shows and Trippa is the only restaurant or eatery I’ve ever looked up and read the reviews of. It was the work/life balance the owner wanted for himself and his staff and therefore limited the number of tables and will only own this restaurant. The dedication to offal done well isn’t new but it impressed me so much that I’m here writing this. The joy in all the staff’s faces is evident. I will travel to Milan for the sole purpose of experiencing this single restaurant. I know I haven’t been there yet and shouldn’t be writing this review, and you’re more than welcome to remove it, however I just have to let you all know at Trippa how impressed I am by your dedication to NOT getting on the capitalist treadmill, and your commitment to the enjoyment of life for all staff. Thank you

Both the Maltagliati and Lombatello di Vitello were finger licking good, especially the latter was my favorite with its great balance of salty, sour flavors combined with the sweetness of the leek and carrots.

Staff was so kind, and positive.

The only thing that could have been better was the Tiramisu… It was not to my liking; too sweet and cream heavy, lacking some tanginess. Savoiardi biscuits were not soaked properly.

However, it was still a great dinner, and if I have the chance, I will definitely dine here again.

What an experience! The food here is spectacular and I’d highly recommend the fried tripe, which was crispy and had a ton of flavour.

The service was friendly and brilliantly efficient. As soon as we finished one dish, the table would be cleared and refilled with water and bread in seconds! The waiters were very helpful with recommendations and we felt really welcome.

Make sure you book ahead!!

Best pasta we’ve ever had… the Tagliatelle melts in your mouth. The seasonal Tortelli was a highlight as well. Of course we enjoyed the classic fried tripe, which we had never tried before. Not pictured was an incredible eggplant stracciatella dish that we loved. And dessert personally loved the cheesecake and my husband enjoyed the panacotta.

Every dish 10/10.

Service 12/10. Our interactions with all the wait staff, manager, sommelier and head chef made the experience.

Worth every penny and then some.

We hope we are lucky enough to come back again and again!

We had such a great experience in Trippa. First of all, staff are awesome. They are so kind and professional. Prices are affordable for a Michelin restaurant.
You will need reservation because the restaurant is fully booked most of the time.
Food was awesome- I will go there again whenever I am in Milan.
