My boyfriend’s family MUST visit this place every time they are in town. I am Gluten Free and Dairy Free and they had options for me that weren’t just a plain side salad. Their gf bread is so good I was worried I was served the wrong thing, they said they take providing alternatives and serving people with allergies seriously. The pizza is flat crust square cut, very much northern mid-west style maybe st. L inspired. Pictured is the clubhouse on gluten free bread.

I went 2 times and both times the pizza was great and portion was just right as I went both times super hungry. 1st time I got Seth’s Mac & Cheese Pizza and 2nd time I got the Philly Cheesesteak pizza. I found the Seth’s Mac & Cheese Pizza after a while was a bit salty but if you’ve got a sweet drink you’ll be fine. I really like how they don’t cut their pizzas like the normal ‘standard’ way of cutting, they cut it in squares which mentally made me feel fuller for some reason.
The inside is very nice, clean, and seats are organized with 2 sections, 1 (which is to the left) is the bar part with high chairs and to the right is the regular booth, seat section. Their known for their pizzas but they’ve also got salads, burgers, sandwiches, wraps, stromboli, wings, soup, and such. But by far, they’ve got a larger selection of pizzas. Even if you don’t go for their pizzas it’s a great enviornment to hang out with someone/people.

Everything about this place is absolutely amazing. The place is beautiful. The staff are warm and welcoming. The food is phenomenal!!! Home cooked and made with love. The best pasta, the best pizza, and the best food I have ever had in my life. The Tavern is absolutely amazing. This is my new favorite place and the best vibe.

Today was my second visit to this location. My first impression was a feeling of being let down for the pizza buffet. We showed up halfway through the 11-2pm window. What pizza I did get was good. The cracker crust is worth the try. I found the variety good if it was stocked until the end of the time period. There were six pizzas on the buffet at 1:30pm. 2 were Italian sausage, and the other 4 were cheese pizza that no one wanted to eat. I was looking for at least a piece of pepperoni, and it left me disappointed. The service was fair and fast, and the dining room was clean. Today was my 2nd visit. Going in with a clean slate and high hopes. The wife and I ordered our beverages. She has a Sprite and me with an unsweetened iced tea and lemon. Our drinks arrived, and I squeezed the lemon into my tea. At first, I thought it was just me, but the lemon was old. There wasn’t even a citrus taste to it. No big deal, it happens. A few minutes later, we placed our order(3:20pm). We enjoyed the pleasant music in the dining room while we waited and sipped our beverages and chatted. The time passed by, and the server seemed to be a touch out of sorts. We got a refill on our beverages and continued to wait. At this time, it had been an hour. 17 minutes later, the server approached our table to inform us the cook was a little behind and walked away. An elderly couple had been waiting just as long, and nothing was said to them. Any expectations I had at this time were fading quickly. We had ordered 2 Stromboli and a small house pizza. The Stromboli arrived 12 minutes before our pizza that was hastily prepared just by the visual appearance. The food was delivered by 2 different servers, and neither of which was ours. The Stromboli was very good. It could have used a 2.5-ounce cup of sauce to go with it instead of a 1.5-ounce suflay cup. The pizza was not cut all the way through, and the crust was soggy. The pizza crust here is supposed to be thin and crispy from what I’ve been told from people in the community. Our server brought us a couple of Styrofoam go boxes for our pizza and a half Stromboli. The time on our receipt after paying was 5:23pm. It took approximately 2 hours to get a 14in pizza and 2 stromboli on a slow Sunday afternoon on non peak hours. My expectations were dashed on my second visit, and my hope was crushed at this point. I love the cracker crust, but it is not worth the price for me to try a third time without some kind of guarantee things would be better. Sammy’s in its hay day may have been the rave, but it has lost its pep in the step. I hope they find and fix the issues soon, or this place could lose out on a gold mine in the pizza industry in Grand Rapids.

Like others have shared, Sammy’s is awesome. You could tell it would be the dining treat of Grand Rapids just from the street! Inside it was busy (hockey tournament on) but the staff and kitchen were as fast as you’d want. Great service and check out the pizza photos! One was the Hamburger with pickles pizza (yuck, I hate pickles!) and mine was the deluxe one. Nice thin crust and my partner had left overs of his pickle pizza! Would definitely eat here again. Prices were reasonable too.

First time back to Sammy’s in years (we just moved back to the area). It was an extremely busy Thursday evening – but we just sat at the bar. Pizza took less than 30 min to get to us. I filled up on salad bar while we waited.
It was very noisy, however service was great and pizza was fantastic- just as I remember. The remodel is fresh & open.

Great food fast courteous staff. Friendly greeting when I walked in to pick up our order, they quickly found my order and told me how long it would be before ready. It was ready exactly when I was told it would be. Ordered a pizza and cheese curds. We’ve had a couple of their pizzas always delicious.
