For lunch a few days ago, we decided to go to Szechuan Garden on Chapman Highway. We ordered the Teriyaki beef to start out with. I thought it was really tough and chewy, but it was packed with flavor. For the lunch meals, you get fried rice and a choice of egg roll or soup. I chose egg drop soup and thought it delicious. The soup had a slight beef flavor.  For my meal, I got Sweet and Sour Chicken. I thought the batter on the chicken was light and crispy. The fried rice was bland, and the sauce was your typical sweet and sour. My Dad got General Tso’s Chicken and thought it was okay. My Mom got Hunan Beef and thought it was okay but it was super greasy. Overall, I was disappointed and really wanted to like this place. It was still good but not the best.

The server was very nice and accommodating, which I appreciated. However, the teriyaki chicken meal was a huge letdown. It was about 80% mushrooms, which wasn’t disclosed on the menu, and barely had any chicken—especially compared to the sweet and sour chicken. The portion of actual chicken was incredibly disappointing.

After I brought it up, they replaced it with sweet and sour chicken, which was good. The egg rolls were also solid, and the other meals at our table looked much better. The people I was dining with seemed happy with their meals, so it seems like I just picked the wrong dish.

My wife ordered the bean curd home style. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t spicy as advertised and was about 90% vegetables with very little tofu. Also, their water tastes awful.

Another issue was how freezing it was inside. Everyone at our table had to keep their jackets on the entire meal, which made it pretty uncomfortable.

Overall, I was really bummed about the teriyaki, but the sweet and sour and the great service helped salvage the experience.

My wife and I have been eating here for several years, and we are very rarely disappointed. I would have gave it a five-star but three star is what I feel is appropriate. We sometimes dine in and other times order takeout, and the food and service have always been very good.
However, I have mentioned this before to the person taking the phone order. This is an ongoing issue with the styrofoam takeout containers they use that tend to leak when transporting. Even though the staff places a piece of cardboard between the containers at times when ordering multiple meals, by the time we get home the sauces have usually leaked out into the bottom of the bag, soaking the sauce packets and plastic utensils.

We order takeout from a couple of other nearby restaurants, and they use plastic containers with clear sealing lids that close tightly and never leak. The difference is noticeable and makes transporting food much easier and cleaner.
After this evening’s order, We’ve decided we will no longer be ordering takeout from here unless the packaging changes in the future. It’s truly a shame because the food and service are consistently very good. I’m sure we’re not the only customers who has experienced this issue, and upgrading the takeout containers would greatly improve the overall experience.

This is one of my favorite SoKno restaurants. We go here at least once a week and I enjoy everything I ate. The hot and sour is delicious! They get busy during dinner hours, so plan accordingly.

Worst experience! My food came in a broken container, which made all the sauce come out the bottom and ruin everyone else’s food. That was the start! My beef sticks were leather and could tap on the table like someone knocking on a door. The rice was undercooked but that again wasn’t the worst part. I called and explained I could bring the food back to show them and the man who answered told me I was just being picky! Lol what a joke. Terrible costumer service! Terrible food! 10/10 will NOT dine again.

This is a very old school chinese american restuarant that serves classics. The food is very reasonably priced, especially for 2025, and the service and atmosphere is great. I got all of the food pictured for around $17 and it was too much to finish. I was recommended to try the mongolian beef and it didn’t disappoint. Will definitely recommend and will be ordering takeout in the future!

One of my fave places to eat in Knoxville!!! Might be a little bit of a hidden gem, but it is famous in my friend group. They give you plenty of food and I usually can take leftovers home with me. The best crab Rangoons I’ve ever had. The staff is so nice here!! My fave waiter is named Aidan, he is so awesome. Special shoutout to the drive thru window!!!

We had a group of three for lunch today and the restaurant was very clean when we arrived. We were promotely greeted and allowed to sit anywhere we wanted to. The restaurant had very few people eating when we arrived at 11:45, but when we were finishing up around 12:30 it was full up. Our server was very friendly and all our entrees were excellent. We ordered extra egg rolls and our meals came with a soup. I had the Hot and Sour and it was very tasty. Our lunch portion was to much for one person so I boxed up my left overs and ordered some addition egg rolls to go for later this week. This was a great meal

I found this place online and we were hanging around Knoxville for the day, so I wanted to try this place out. I took my sister and my partner here. We came here for dinner, and it was a relatively small place that had one server going around the tables. I ordered fried dumplings as an appetizer, which was something they had written on their board as a limited item, so I assumed that meant that they were housemade. Unfortunately, though, it seems that they were manufactured and frozen, which was a disappointment to me. I should have asked, but I thought that the implication of it being limited meant that they were housemade… that was my mistake! They were pretty flavorless to me, but most frozen ones are. The sauce it came with helped a lot. For dinner, they have a dinner combination that comes with an egg roll, soup, and an entree with fried rice. An amazing deal. I asked if I could get pork lo mein instead of chicken lo mein, because the price on the regular menu for them is the same, and I was told no. So I ordered the chicken lo mein with wonton soup as my soup. The wonton soup was pretty good, but the meat could have had more flavor. The broth was nice and savory. The egg roll was lacking on the flavor for me, it had some black pepper element to it which was interesting. The chicken lo mein itself was really good to me. A little greasy and sweet, which my sister did not like, but I enjoyed it. The fried rice was overall bland but could be doctored up with some reasoning and soy sauce. Overall, the meal was about average, but for the price, it was amazing. The service was also really good. One person was going around the tables and being super attentive, which I give props too. I’m not sure I would come back to this place, but it was nice to try it once.
