The draw here is two-fold: a quaint outdoor cafe and a menu built around seafood (oysters/lobster/shrimp/crab) and bar fare (burgers/pizza/fried everything). Tonight it’s the outdoor cafe made more magical by the perfect weather, moonlight and the strands of patio lights strung across Marion Street. I chose the calamari to start. It was prepared in a beer batter. The batter in and of itsself wasn’t terrible, but it’s not meant to coat something as fragile as calamari. By the time the batter is fully cooked, the calamari is way over done, tough and rubbery. It was disappointing. My entree, however, more than made up for this shortfall. I had the Maine Lobster Roll. The bread perfectly buttered and toasted. The lobster salad was light and not drowning in mayo. It was to die for and the tots on the side were, well, they’re tots and I’m a confirmed tot hound. I’ve dined here before but this is my first review. In those prior visits I found the menu to be hit and miss. Give it a go, especially for the Maine Lobster Roll!

Love me some Poor Phil’s located at the side end of the Carlton Hotel.
This restaurant is big and spacious with outdoor seating where they are dog friendly.
I didn’t get the Lobster rolls this time but that’s one of my menu selections.
The cheese fish sandwich and sweet potatoes will melt in your mouth.
Full sea food menu where you can get your oysters fix.
Full bar with several drink specials and beers on tap.

Fun bar and restaurant. Our appetizer was crunchy, tender and full of flavor. The draws from tap were extensive and rewarding. Lively place for locals and visitors. Friendly staff, good service, plenty of seating and decent prices.

Sports bar with cool Chicago memorabilia on the walls. Indoor and outdoor seating. Fantastic drink list with lots of beer and cocktail options. Huge fan of all the seafood options! Oysters, lobster roll, fried shrimp, they’ve got a great variety. Service was great and very friendly. Don’t feel too bad for Poor Phil!

Poor Phil’s Bar and Grill is a lovely neighborhood go to spot for a voluminous beer selection and barfood.

Inside, there are multiple TVs with sports for viewing throughout. The padded bench styled window seats provide a good vantage point fun for people-watching inside and out. Dined outside and felt a bit neglected by our server. I felt bothersome trying to wave down staff for drinks… nevertheless, you can enjoy food and beverages al fresco. Poor Phil’s is a few blocks from the Green Line or Metra, so hearing the hustle and bustle makes for great conversation.

Poor Phil’s beer selection on tap and bottled is far more than adequate too. The Happy Hour Menu is a great deal from 4-6 pm with selected half off apps and $2 fresh shucked Oysters. Although limited, the app prices are easy enough to try a few at a time. Depending on the day of week there are three beers and one cocktail special for only $5 each. Normal seafood pricing is a little high for the portion size but is fresh and flavorful. Poor Phil’s Bar and Grill hits the spot for cold brews and fried food.

Cool place to chill and have dinner inside or outside dining. Plenty of beer choices and don’t forget to look up at the beer taps!
Sea food is pretty good for a sports bar.
The staff was friendly and helpful.
I would go back.

Just my opinion, you’ll have to be the best judge.

I stopped here after a long day of studying on a Sunday evening for some appetizers and drinks. I started with the oysters and an extra dirty martini, & it was such a great combo. Moved on to the crab cake and the salad that it was paired with had a delicious dressing. The Moscow mule was very refreshing and I loved the ginger flavors. The lobster bites were absolutely delicious and so crunchy! The gentleman who served me, John, was very kind and made sure I was taken care of. I loved my solo Sunday date here & can’t wait to be back.
