This place is one of a kind. Has been around for as long as I can remember and still tastes as yummy and authentic. I don’t know of any other place that sells gorditas. Meat Gorditas are the best. The sopapillas are a NM food specialty. I prefer them without the sugar, but good either way as long as you have the honey. Liz our waitress was super friendly and attentive. I live and San Diego and come here anytime I’m in the area. (Not often enough)

Coming back to Canutillo after 30 years, I wasn’t sure what to expect—but walking into The Little Diner felt like stepping right back into my childhood. The same comforting aroma of fresh tortillas, chile, and home cooking fills the air, and the food is just as delicious as I remember it.
I had the chance to enjoy the same authentic flavors that made this place special decades ago—rich, perfectly seasoned chile rellenos, and that unmistakable homemade touch in every bite. The warmth of the staff and the laid-back, familiar setting brought back so many memories of family meals and neighborhood gatherings.
It’s rare for something to stand the test of time like this, but The Little Diner hasn’t lost its magic. It’s still the heart of Canutillo, serving up tradition, comfort, and the best flavors in the Borderland.
If you grew up here, or just want to taste real El Paso-style home cooking, this is the place to go. Some things really do stay perfect.

This was my first time trying LD, the gordita vibe definitely lived up to it’s expectations. I got gordita plate which included rice and beans. The beef and chile colorado gorditas were delicious tasting. The gordita has this crunchy good tasting texture. The rice tasted good and the beans were ok too. I will definitely be coming back to try the other gordita flavors that are available. They offer other items on the menu which sounded yummy. The employees are very welcoming, friendly and upbeat. The restrooms are clean and fresh smelling. The dining area has plenty of tables and has a welcoming environment.

I know this is a well liked restaurant however our experience today was plain horrible! It was on a Sunday afternoon. My mom and I asked for soft tortilla tacos (3 each). The service took almost an hour, when we got our food it seemed as of they just took it out of the fridge!! The tortilla was colder than cold and so hard. I told Jacob (our waiter) and he very kindly took them back to “fix it” since he personally touched the tortilla and confirmed it was cold and hard. Her he comes with our tacos again and as I touched them , they were exactly the same except this time the inside food felt a bit warmer. I asked Jacob to just bring me some warm tortillas and I will place my food over the new tortillas. He was so embarrassed that he told me he will take care of it personally and he did. He brought me some warm tortillas and I just poured the now cold food on them. My poor mom could not eat anything. Some relatives shared some of their food with her and I just ate the most horrible tacos I have ever had in my life! I am very sorry this happened to such a well known place but definitely there is a need for improvement and better management! There were only two waitresses serving, and they seem overwhelmed. I do want to point out that Jacob went above and beyond by offering to warm up some tortillas. It was not his job and if it wasn’t for this, I would have starved to dead. In addition the drinks were also horrible. They were flavorless! Ice tea and lemonade and some other drink my tia asked for. I went safe and just had a beer! Oh and to close this sad comment, my bill came out to $125 for 4 people !!!!! NEVER EVER GOING BACK TO THIS PLACE.

I ordered the Red Enchiladas with beans and rice. They were pretty good but very salty. My wife’s tacos were really salty also. Could have been just the cook at the time though. Service was great!

Over 30 years ago, this place was worth the trip across the city. I moved away, moved back 30+ years later. It’s now bigger, no more dirt back roads, but still a cool, out-of-the-way joint. Great, crunchy gorditas and the best barbacoa I’ve ever had!

Whenever I’m in that part of town I like to stop by. It’s good and the chips and salsa have an option of cheese with the salsa or should I say salsa with the cheese and I have not seen that in a while. It was good! Getting there was tricky through the small neighborhood streets. But I managed to park my big truck across the street anyway. They also have the little mini ice ball cubes which are nicer than the commercial big ice cubes.

Having lived in this area since the 80s, I’ve seen this place change, and unfortunately, it’s not for the better. The service has become consistently poor, with staff displaying a dismissive attitude. Beyond the service, the pricing feels excessive—charging $3 for a side of sauce is unreasonable.
As for the food, it lacks any authentic Mexican flavor. Even the gorditas, which used to be the highlight of the menu, have lost their quality. If you’re looking for real Mexican cuisine, you’re better off making the trip to Juarez. I won’t be returning
