The only minus for us was because it was a Saturday evening, even though we had made a reservation, we were seated in a cramped table and it was occasionally drafty (the weather was cold and our table was behind the host table)
We definitely will be back.
$4.50 for Kumamoto oysters the size of my pinky nail. When I pointed it out to a blonde manager, she casually said: “Yeah, lately they’ve been coming in this small size.”
That response completely misses the point. If your supplier sends oysters that small, that’s a management problem, not something you pass on to customers. At $4.50 each, they shouldn’t be served at all. Restaurants should have standards.
All four Kumamoto oysters we received were the smallest I’ve ever seen in any restaurant, easily four times smaller than the other oysters on the menu.
We also ordered biscuits, which were undercooked.
Then we tried the bone marrow with clams, and honestly I wasn’t even sure what I was eating. There were breadcrumbs and a bone, but the only thing that resembled bone marrow was the bone itself. Dressing something up with fancy presentation doesn’t make it better — like putting a coral necklace on a pig and expecting it to become a lady.
Later our waiter disappeared. I asked another staff member because I wanted to tip him personally. After a few minutes, another manager came over and asked — in a tone like I was bothering her — “What do you want?”
A professional manager would say something like: “How can I help you?” or “I understand you’re looking for your server — let me assist.” That’s basic hospitality.
I actually stopped coming here four years ago because the entrées were bad. This time I decided to give the place another chance and ordered only appetizers.
Unfortunately, they managed to mess those up too.
At this point everything here seems bad — the management, the appetizers, and the entrées. I won’t be coming back. Highly not recommended.
Was pleasantly surprised with the happy hour they had to offer! Our bartenders were great, wasn’t able to catch their names though. We came just as they opened and didn’t realize they had such a great happy hour!
Obviously discounts on the drinks but was super happy to hear about their oysters on happy hour! They have a solid variety to choose from. Not going to lie though, went for whatever the dollar oysters were at that time.
Would love to be back soon for more.
Music was great, food and drinks were fantastic. Definitely somewhere to go to catch up with friends or a nice starter before you hit the rest of the spots on Main Street.
Manny deserves a special shout-out. He’s incredibly knowledgeable about all the oysters and entrees, and he made great recommendations. What impressed me even more was how he picked up on a tiny social cue: he noticed I wasn’t drinking my cocktail and sensed I didn’t love it, even though I was too shy to say anything. Without missing a beat, he brought me the menu and guided me to a new drink that was absolutely perfect.
Service like this makes Salt & Barrel feel special every time. I’ll definitely keep coming back!
I was rushed , I had a bus boy literally reach onto my table , without asking if I’m finished , before 830 and take my full plate of food. Not only that, I waited 10 minutes for someone to pick up my check , with no body in the restaurant, god forbid I try to go to the bathroom , when I come back the server implies I was going to dine and dash. Like are you serious???
Ridiculous
