Came here because this place had 5 stars and not a lot of pictures. This restaurant is located inside the Botanical Gardens but you don’t need to pay to eat here, it’s located next to the gift shop. Sometimes the food venue in a place like this can be terrible and over priced — this isn’t the case with Fern & Feast Bistro.

The food selection here is pretty decent, sandwiches, tacos, salads, burgers, flatbreads etc, most in the $9-12 range. They have some kid options (chicken nuggets, grilled chese, quesadilla, etc) for picky eaters at $6 each. Downside is that the sandwiches etc don’t come with fries or chips, so that could increase your meal price.

I ordered the Uber sandwich because I feel like that is a good gauge of how the food will be and is pretty standard at most restos. Mine was served relatively quick on an environmentally friendly plate made if recycle paper products (I don’t care all that much but I know some people will appreciate that touch).

Club was delicious, but make sure to grab mustard and mayo. Bread was toasted just the right amount; it had some char but was not too dry or crunchy. Lettuce and tomato were fresh, and the proportions and amounts of the turkey, ham and beacon was great.

But the best reason to come to this place is the scenery. From the back of the narrow seating area you can grab a seat that looks out over the Botanical Gardens or of you keep going back they have outdoor seating available. The weather was wonderful today and so I ate my sandwich on the patio taking in nature and avoiding the man with three children who all needed discipline in their life inside.

If you’re looking for a place to stop and relax with decent food while the weather is good – this is your place. Give it a shot!

I was disappointed eating here. I was hoping it would compare to Birmingham’s but it did not. Very basic food, very basic taste. Honestly any 10 year old could do just as well. I ordered the ham and pepper jelly sandwich. I believe it was supposed to have goat cheese on it but I couldn’t tell. Others in my party ordered the flatbread which looked better than mine. I wish I could say something good about the food. The seating area reminded me of an airport eatery.

Drove in from Florida for a concert and decided to check out the butterfly garden so I stopped for lunch. Got the steak & cheese sandwich and found not only an inedible hard chunk of something burnt (Was told it was a bit of bread, my dad doesn’t buy it) but also a hair. I’ve had occasions of my own hair getting in my food, I have lots of red hair, but this was a short white hair. I ain’t greying, so it isn’t mine! Sandwich was alright other than that, said it had peppers on it but I tasted none. Also had a cookie which was good for what it was, though. Be careful when eating something from the stove.
