We are not new to this restaurant as we are locals, And know great service is consistent at benders. This evening we were out for a birthday dinner and Koti H, our server, was phenomenal. She was knowledgeable about the menu, and she had a fun and friendly personality. Great hire bender’s!

This was our first time here. Known as the oldest tavern in Canton. From the outside, and when inside, you feel like you are stepping back in time. We were greeted by a very friendly hostess. We sat down and we were not given menus, unfortunately, we waited a good while before the waitress came, and when she did it was with a drink menu only. That was a sign that everything was going to be delayed, and it was. We were told that their prime rib was amazing, and my husband was ready for that but, because of our ordering delays, we were told that they just ran out after we ordered it. The food took so long to get and our waitress did apologize. Now, let’s get to the food.
..I ordered a mocktail, they only offered one flavor and it had pineapple juice, after much deliberation with the waitress they substituted cranberry juice, it was fine. My husband ordered the espresso martini and it was good. We ordered the crab cakes as appetizers. I thought they were very good, but my husband did not like them, but he tends to compare them to the ones in Maryland. I got the stuffed flounder, there was nothing special about it, and I was disappointed. The fish was slightly dry but the crab stuffing was good. It was plated with two rings of seed mustard, and it was unnecessary and overpowering. The spinach under the fish was very sour tasting and not pleasant. My husband got the swordfish and said it was average but cooked to his liking. I got the Bender fries, which was like a potatoes pancake. The only thing I can say is that I couldn’t eat it. I don’t know what happened in that kitchen but someone must have forgotten that they had salted it and they kept salting it, it was horrible! I asked for a vegetable and that was cauliflower, it was better than the potato. The dessert was better than the meal. Crème Brûlée, outstanding and the chocolate mouse pie was very good.

As someone from out of town, I could appreciate the historic establishment
However I couldn’t enjoy the food
It was nice and unique to try turtle soup , tasted a bit like gator but the soup itself was so sweet on sherry
The chicken also so sweet
The bender fries were not fries and burnt. Imagine a smashed potato then fried
It was too burnt for me too enjoy
Steamed veggies tasted like they were microwaved from frozen
The bread pudding was decent
The smoked duck was really good with pesto and sundried tomato
Reservations are limited on holidays so book early
Some folks got the coated halibut, that was the only decent thing

Everything about this place is incredible and awesome! Great food, great service, great ambiance, and phenomenal history!

124 year old restaurant!! You must be doing everything at the top of your game to last this long.

Make reservations or you won’t get a table. Bar seating is 1st come 1st served and bar seating is limited.

There’s simply too many positive things to say about this place – check it out for yourself, you won’t be disappointed!

Bender’s Tavern is a must-visit. We were in town for a choir tour and were blown away by the service and the menu. The seafood is as fresh as anything you’d find on the coast, specifically the scallops and shrimp. Meeting Chef Eric and being served by Bella made us feel right at home. It’s clear why this place has such a long-standing reputation in Canton. Terrific food and even better people!

This place is like a time capsule to a bygone era. The food and service were very good, but the atmosphere was worth the trip to the center of Canton. What makes it memorable is that the place isn’t trying to recreate the feeling of yesteryear. Instead you’re actually sitting in a restaurant circa 1900. The front step / entrance is the original and well worn from all the patrons who have crossed the threshold over the past 125 years. All-in-all it’s a fun place to visit and eat.

Upon first entering, I wasn’t sure this was going to a good experience, based on the hostess and her attitude. However, this ended up being an AMAZING experience. Penny was our waitress and she was an absolute dream. Best service we’ve had in a long time! She took time to explain the menu in detail, give recommendations, and even a tour of some of the historic building. You can tell she really loves her job and cares about people. Every bite we had was incredible. This was definitely the favorite restaurant of our trip. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough!

My wife and I always have a great experience at Bender’s.
Their hospitality is top notch, service from Andrea was great, and the food is always delicious. We had the mussels for appetizer, I had the halibut and my wife had the scallops. Shared a bottle of wine.
Awesome date night.
