Reviews
We indulged in a few dishes, and each reflected classic French cooking with a refined touch. The steak and lamb shoulder were flavourful, cooked with care to a tender finish and thoughtfully garnished. The fish of the day was fresh and delicious. For dessert, the chocolate fondant and pistachio cake were a satisfying end to the meal.
Beyond the food, the service was attentive and warm, adding to the overall experience. The wine list complements the menu well, offering a solid selection.
An exceptional dining experience from start to finish. Bon Ap’ Petit Bistro truly captures the soul of French cuisine, paired with fantastic cocktails and outstanding service.
What we loved:
• Amazing staff — warm, attentive, and genuinely passionate about what they do
• Authentic French flavours, beautifully executed
• Perfect balance between food, drinks, and atmosphere
What we tried:
• Snails Bourguignonne – rich, buttery, and absolutely classic
• Steak and fries – cooked perfectly, simple and full of flavour
• Tartare – fresh, well-seasoned, and done just right
• Crème brûlée – silky custard with a perfectly caramelised top
Cocktails:
• Jules Rosé – light, refreshing, and elegant
• French Negroni – a refined twist on a classic
• Amaretto Sour – smooth, balanced, and delicious
Tip: Save room for dessert and cocktails , they’re just as impressive as the food.
A beautiful bistro with incredible food and amazing staff. We’ll definitely be back ✨
Thank you
The food was amazing, we tried:
• Escargots 5/5, tender and flavoursome
• Duck parfait 5/5, smooth and strong
• Pork rillette 4/5, just needed a touch of salt
• Duck à l’orange 5/5, the duck was tender and the sauce was beautifully sweet
• Steak tartare 4.5/5, had this twice and it was very good. Could use a few more pickles on the side as there was only 1 cornichon and 1 small picked onion halved
• Eye fillet steak, cooked perfectly to the requested doneness
• Crème brûlée, smooooooth
The only thing I found a bit odd was how they advertise two or three courses, but there is actually no discount for choosing those options
We had a booking at 9:00 pm and arrived at 9:05 pm due to public transport delays. Unfortunately, we were welcomed by what I believe was the manager (an Australian man with a beard) in a very passive-aggressive manner. Instead of greeting us, he remained silent and wordlessly pointed at his wrist to indicate that we were late, then said rudely, “I was going to call you because you are my last booking.” That was the entirety of the interaction before showing us to our table.
At no point did he say hello or offer any form of welcome — which was quite shocking in terms of customer service.
Thankfully, everything else was absolutely perfect. The French waiter was wonderful, the French waitress was equally lovely, and the food was delicious.
When we went to pay the bill, the same manager was again very cold and did not ask whether we had enjoyed our dinner.
Such a shame for an otherwise lovely place with great food and genuinely warm staff.
Some favourites were the mussels, frites, tartar & the squid.
Good price compared to other french offering in Melbourne.
