At our Kingsport, TN location, we are part of a historic seafood tradition. Captain D’s Seafood Restaurant first opened its doors back on August 15, 1969. A lot has changed since then, but our commitment to serving freshly prepared seafood at a great value has been our core mission from the beginning. Known originally as Mr. D’s Seafood and Hamburgers, Captain D’s was opened in Donelson, Tennessee. From the very start, we set out to provide quality seafood at reasonable prices, a concept that was revolutionary at the time.

I saw on the sign outside that they had a senior’s menu. My wife and I go in to order, and the lady says the seniors menu is only good on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday, we went on Friday. We then ordered what should have cost around $14 but since we wanted something to drink with our small meal, the price went over $20.00. Needless to say, the meal was not that enjoyable as we felt like we had been scammed in the first place since they only allow me to be a senior on certain days that they do not post on the signage outside. We will not go here again just due to the false advertising of offering a senior menu but not honoring it.

The ‘extra shrimp’ order had tiny shrimp with a lot of breading.
The chicken and fish combo meal… Nearly the same as the other order. Disappointed.
Carpet beetles flew around and into food/onto customers.
The Ladies’ Room auto flush in handicapped stall didn’t work.
A layer of grease covered everything in the Ladies’ Room.

In a couple weeks ago, when I ordered the shrimp and chicken and other things.The shrimp sauce was very very good. The breading was also very , very good on the shrimp, chicken and other things. Lately, the tartar sauce that’s been placed on the plates and the cocktail sauce are just lacking in any flavor. The breading is currently also lacking in much flavor. I would say they are bland tasting. I wonder if your previous cook left. Shrimp should only be cooked a limited time to remain best tasting. The breading was actually burnt. So, no more purchasing from Captain Ds. I recommend this comment be used to improve and not posted.

My friend and I ordered the 2piece fish and fries (to split), then added cole slaw and extra hush puppies which were golden & deliciously hot! We ate in and the girls were swamped, but still friendly and quite helpful.

I ask for no shrimp on a Deluxe seafood platter. I ask for them to substitute fish for shrimp. They said the manager said no. I ask them to please just leave it off because I am allergic to shrimp. I said over the intercom and made it known why I didn’t want them. I got home and they had included the shrimp on my meal and ruined the entire meal because of my allergies. I was going to call and complain but I can’t trust them now to not make the situation worse seeing how I am highly allergic and they still put it on my food. I don’t trust a replacement meal. I don’t recommend this place for safety reasons if anything else.

During the “Monsoon” that washed out Kingsport this week I randomly chose to hit Captain D’s on Stone Drive. There were five cars waiting, and it was coming down like a river. I prepared for the wait. Gladly to my great delight, the line moved super quickly and in 10 mins, my order was in hand. The meal was hot, the service was great, the order was perfect down to the sauces! Great visit!
