Experience Paris in the heart of Kitsilano. Our goal is to provide an experiential escape throughout the day, whether you’re in for a morning coffee before work or a feast for dinner. We’re open all day for breakfast, weekend brunch, lunch and dinner.
French ex-patriates Maxime Bettilli and Julien Aubin wanted to instill the classic French bistro culture into their community, while keeping it fresh and approachable for all. Their desire to elevate the standards of cuisine without a pretentious atmosphere has cemented Au Comptoir as a highlight of the vibrant and eclectic Kitsilano food scene.
Charming cafe serving French classics, plus a full brunch, a bar & outdoor seating.

Attentive service (although our server forgot to bring our ordered beverages before our meal) our water glasses were always topped up, and we were constantly checked on without feeling interrupted. Food is simply remarkable. Beautifully plated, explained as it was served, and above all: tasty! The bread was crusty on the outside without causing that scratchy sensation in your mouth, while being soft and velvety on the inside. The tartare was fresh, almost creamy in texture and well seasoned (it was delicious spread on the bread), duck breast had a perfect sear with skin that was crispy from the right amount of fat that was rendered off leaving a meaty, juicy and savoury chew, and the slice of lamb loin was hearty and so satisfying. The accompanying sides of creamed plantains and veggies (especially the earthy mushrooms that came with the lamb) were perfect matches. We couldn’t decide which plate was our favourite as they all shined in their own right. Same goes for the dessert…I don’t really have a sweet tooth but I thoroughly enjoyed sampling all four of the desserts chosen for our table. This is a special place indeed. I haven’t come in a while and that is a regrettable mistake I won’t be repeating.

Great experience at Au Comptoir!
The quality of the food was excellent, everything was beautifully prepared and full of flavor.
The atmosphere is warm and pleasant, and the waitresses were incredibly kind and attentive.
It truly made me happy to find a little taste of France here.
I’ll definitely be coming back!

Classic small French restaurant. Very authentic with fantastic steak frites, burger with foil gras, great French wines, tasty onion soup and crème brûlée. My top recommendation is the steak frites with extra Roquefort. Service is a gamble. Great sometimes and not so good other times.

Had brunch on a long weekend and the food was on point. Hubby ordered the burger and it was juicy and full of flavor. I ordered the bavette steak which had pasta that was chewy, but it was tasty overall. Our friend ordered the Benedict. As her order was not ready at the same time as ours, she was served with an appetizer, which was a nice touch. Their crème brûlée was creamy, smooth and just the right amount and crisp of the crust. We all left satisfied and I’d have to come back for the burger that hubby was raving about.

Went for a birthday dinner and we were both blown away by our meals. The duck was delicious and the bavette even better. I had requested to have my bavette fries instead of what was on the menu and they were very accommodating. The service was perfect and the setting lovely. Highly recommend!

There were four of us we had a fabulous time. I enjoyed my coffee but I could not eat the delicious looking cookie. One of my dining partners ordered croissant while we waited for the remainder of our party; they were not offered butter or jam. But this service resides at was spectacular and fun. Note to Owner/Manager/Chef I realize that it is inauthentic to have a gluten-free croissant that there must be a supplier in Vancouver. I have been fortunate to have them in other large cities. Thank you for a great experience

We came to Au Comptoir for weekend brunch and were pleasantly surprised by how good it was! The food might look simple at first glance, but the flavors were amazing. I had the burger, which was incredibly juicy and perfectly complemented by sautéed onions and melted cheese. The fries were piping hot and super crispy, and the side salad was fresh with delicious seasoning. Service was also top-notch—friendly, attentive, and they kept our water refilled without us even asking. A lovely French spot we’ll definitely return to!

I love this place for its casual atmosphere and superb French food. On Friday nights and Saturdays I recommend reservations. During the week drop in as possible. All of the steaks, especially the bavette, are excellent. All of the wait staff is French but surprisingly polite. The bartenders are great and serve great cocktails with Flare.

We had a Angus Stesk and duck, and it was great. And would like to try their dessert. But decided not, due to the services were poor. You had to wave and ask for their attentions, and when you told the Manager the service needed be more attentive, he expressed sorry but with a body jesture that he’s in a rush.
