I had high expectations for The Green Elephant since it’s an all-vegan restaurant, but unfortunately my experience was very disappointing. We ordered the curry puffs, miso soup, basil fried rice, and parotta with curry.
The parotta with curry was the only dish we enjoyed. The curry puffs were a letdown—they were over-fried, and the oil smell was very dominant. The miso soup tasted like something that could easily be made at home, they used the wrong type of seaweed and it lacked depth.
The biggest disappointment was the basil fried rice. It was completely burnt, had a strong bitter aftertaste, and the ratio was off, which made it unpleasant to eat. I really did not enjoy it at all.
As someone who is a vegan, this restaurant was a big letdown for me.

One of my favorite places to eat in Portland! Everything I’ve ever tried has been fantastic, with my favorites being the tofu masala and pad Thai, the dumplings and spring rolls are fantastic as well! Super kind staff! would 10/10 recommend!

The food was very good for my first time here. I wish the waitress had paid a bit more attention to details tho.
I didn’t get the egg I DID order. Probably bc my friend didn’t want her egg. Then when the bill came she got it all mixed up again. Charged me for 2 of my friend’s dishes.

Had a great first-time couple of meals tonight. Pineapple Fried Rice and Peanut Curry were the dishes of choice and were amazing! Was highly recommended to us by friends, and we will definitely be back.

First time in Maine. Portland, of course has vegan food for us. This place is real popular! Food was pretty good and the vegan foods are marked (there are dishes with egg). Service was friendly.

Such a great, varied menu. The server was very knowledgeable about ingredients. We were there on a Friday evening and we’re lucky we got there early, around 5:20. There were already a few tables there and it filled up quickly.

5 * for all vegetarian menu, didn’t find any other restaurant open with such a selection while passing through the city. They were accommodating to the allergen ingredients as well. Overall a good dinning experience.

One of the best vegetarian restaurants (and the only Asian vegetarian one) I have been to. Food was tasteful and service very friendly. Would definitely try again.

We took a long driving trip thru the New England coastal area all the way up to Maine. One of the many overnight stops we made was Portland. We researched this restaurant before we left home and it was better than expected. We ordered several dishes at lunch and we shared all.
Very nice.
