It’s a plain old diner. The staff was friendly and efficient; the food was out quicker than our favorite Spanish restaurant at home. We barely got our order in, and it was in front of us. The gator tail meal was delicious and tender, as described. The side salad was huge, but the clam chowder was thin, which was not what I expected—there were plenty of clams, but it was just not our typical. Prices were reasonable for the food portion and quality. If you are in the area, it has good portions and is friendly. The dining area is dated, and the restrooms could use an updo.

I went to Ocala for my Birthday and decided to have dinner at Sam’s St John. I ordered Conch Fritters as an appetizer and fried Red Snapper for the main. So much food great value . The Fritters reminded me of Key West so much that I tried to get an order to go after Meal, but they sold out. I decided on the fried Gator tail to go. Abby was great!!!

First time ordering from here. I’ve had better fish sandwiches at McDonald’s. The fish was soggy and paper thin. The lettuce was brown and the tomatoes are old. The fries had a great flavor. However they were cold and not crispy. I also ordered the crab stuffed mushrooms, very disappointing. In my opinion the ranch dressing was the best part of my meal. I could have gone to Long John Silvers and had a better meal and paid less.

Stuffed mushrooms for the appetizer was good. Wife had clams and fish combo dinner. Clams were inedible, tough and chewy. Fish was a little better and yesterdays baked potato, well. No refill on drinks and hush puppies were burnt. I ordered chicken and shrimp alredo. 45 mins later it arrived at the table. Chicken was fine but, shrimp not so much. Waitress said the manager was going to discount my meal. I didn’t ask, they volunteered. My bill was a few pennies shy of $65. My discount at the register was $6 for 2 bad dinners and my meal arriving after everyone else was finished. Not again.

We stopped in here today for a birthday lunch. Our waitress, Beth, was very attentive and made good recommendations. She said the fried food batter was not heavy and did not overpower the food. I had the fried shrimp and clams. Husband had fried shrimp and gator. All entrees good. Fried okra and green beans good. Beth is very entertaining and has a quick mind. Seems to me that she needs a raise. Will have to remember this place when we travel back. We’ll worth the stop.

While visiting a relative in the area, she advised that this is a good dining option. We ordered fried green tomatoes (very good),clams, flounder and shrimp, baked potatoes and a garden salad. The seafood items were prepared well. The potatoes were hard and we advised the server and she exchanged for fresh ones which were delicious! Overall the food was moderately priced and in my opinion could have been hotter. I prefer my cooked items very hot. The portion sizes were fairly large so I didn’t have room for dessert ; however, the restaurant seemed to have a good selection of desserts as well, Including a very rich looking chocolate cake. Overall I would give it a go. Our server was very attentive.

We got the fried flounder and cheese grits. Our dinners werr cooked perfectly and tasted great! Generous portions of flounder but the corn nuggets appetizer is a little pricey for the quantity. Staff was very friendly, dinner came out quick and hot.

I’ve been going here since I was a kid, now I get to bring my kids here. The clam strips are my absolute favorite. The chicken was a tad over done and lacked flavor, my husband had the calamari strips and said it was some of the best in Ocala. He’s very picky about his calamari so that’s a big win. My only thing that I wasn’t a fan of was I got a (1) piece of coconut cake it was 7.99. I was blown away, I should of asked price first but really wasn’t thinking. Our waitress was amazing, kept our drinks full and the AYCE shrimp coming. We’ll have to venture out to make a trip here more often.
