Phenomenal food, not much of a weight and a really comfortable place to eat at. I got the meat platter and they substituted the pulled pork the the chicken. My God, the chicken was unbelievably perfect. It’s the best chicken I’ve ever had at any BBQ restaurant. The brisket was perfect, the lean and the fatty both hit the marks. Ribs just great. My favorite side was the cheesy potatoes I have to figure out how to get that texture. Great job guys this place belongs in the top 50, well earned. This was one of my favorite stops.

Came for lunch on a Saturday, line wasn’t long but moved slow (took about an hour from the bottom of the ramp). Ordered turkey, brisket, pork ribs, pulled pork, and beef ribs with sides of pinto beans, tater casserole, mac & cheese, cucumber salad, honey butter cornbread and chocolate chip cookie.

Meat: Turkey was standout, even those who didn’t like turkey usually were blown away by how moist and flavorful it was. Lean brisket a bit dry, would recommend fattier pieces as it wasn’t as fatty as most other joints, more flavorful and good mouthfeel compared to lean brisket. Other meats were good standard, similar to other Texas BBQ we’ve enjoyed (Interstellar, Franklin’s, Snows, Corkscrew, Truth, Pinkerton’s). Sauce was a great medley that had notes of vinegar, mustard, and ketchup based sauces—tasted good on everything with just the right balance of tang and sweetness.

Sides: beans were dry and not much flavor, cucumber salad and tater casserole had great flavor and texture and could have eaten more of each, mac & cheese was good but nothing to write home about. Cornbread was incredible, melted in your mouth and not too sweet. Cookies were good but unexpectedly dense (with whole oats), interesting notes of cinnamon; had one warmed up once we got home and it was much better.

Atmosphere/service: Bar A has retained its small town feel even after “exploding” after getting on the top 50 list—free beer and a warm welcome from Gary (whose recommendation encouraged us to try the turkey) made the long wait feel less painful.

I came all the way from the UK to meet the most handsome man in BBQ and he was everything I dreamed he would be. My twin. Like looking at me in the back of a spoon. A what a guy. BBQ was good too so that’s a bonus I suppose. Get the pork steak when it’s on special. If I could come back I would. But it’s a bit far from England. One day. Until then. Support small businesses. Also get the cornbread pudding. We were forced into it. But it was good. They know what they are doing. Post oak & Diet Coke.

Took a drive today 11/8/2025 down to Montgomery county from Houston to Bar A Bbq and it was so worth it.. Got there early around 10 a.m and they were selling breakfast so had to wait til lunch which began at 10:45. Ordered a little of everything ( 1/2lb brisket,1/2 turkey,1/4 pulled pork and a jalapeño and cheese sausage ) and sides of cheesy tater casserole, cowboy pinto bean, dirty rice dressing , cucumber salad must say everything was really good . Also had some of their honey butter cornbread a little too sweet for my liking but it was ok.. Will go back and try their pork ribs.. They also have free beer while you wait and I must say I did indulge while I waited…

This place is absolutely amazing. Got here around 1130 on a Saturday, waited about 45mins.

Now onto the food, the sausage has this amazing vinegar taste with cheese in the middle and it’s lights out, biting into the pork ribs is one of the best pork ribs I’ve bit in. The simplicity of just simple seasoning is special. The brisket is they best brisket I’ve personally ever tried, the bark specifically. The 16 mesh black pepper and season salt is all a brisket needs with that good ol post oak. The bbq sauce is heavy mustard, but taste good.

The sides, just get them all seriously lol

We will indeed drive 2 hours back down here for this place!!

I travel an eat BBQ all over TX and this is one the best experiences I have had. Main proteins were all next level. The Dirty Rice and chocolate cornbread pudding were unbelievable. They every bit deserve being in the TX Top 50.

Best visiting from Seattle and been to a couple of places in Tx but this is the best BBQ in town. They really take their time tailoring your plate and Kimberly was so nice to tell us about the Ribeye and was easily my favorite cut (sorry brisket) she deserves a raise and paid vacation to the Bahamas. Absolute 10

Bar-A was on my map primarily for the brisket dirty rice. I thought this side sounded unique and I really wanted to try it. However, it’s just not that special, needs a bit more seasoning, and the rice was a bit mushy. But that’s where my criticism ends, literally everything else was phenomenal. The tater casserole was actually one of my favorite BBQ sides I’ve had to date, and I’ve been to half of the Texas Monthly top 10. The pork ribs were top tier, amazing. The BBQ chicken was the best I’ve had at a restaurant. The sausage had amazing flavor and didn’t make me feel bloated like usual with sausage. The brisket was 10/10, absolutely delicious. We had banana cheesecake pudding for dessert and it was also phenomenal. All around deserving of a top 10 spot in my opinion, but don’t just come for brisket dirty rice. Everything else on the menu is amazing!

Despite all the good reviews, In my opinion the food was average at best, it was off temperature and ridiculously priced. I had the brisket and sausage with dirty rice and beans. I’ve had much much better BBQ at half the price. I will pay more for top notch food, however, this just didn’t do it for me.

We used Bar-A-BBQ to cater our grand opening of our office and the experience was 10/10! I sent in our catering request through their website and Shelby called me within 2 hours of the email to explain their catering menu, answer questions I had, etc. I wasn’t even expecting a call until the following week, because I saw they were closed for a week during the holidays. We will definitely be using them again… Also, their tater casserole is AMAZING! You must try it out when you go.
