As a newbie to the area I had to sit waterfront and gobble down some fresh seafood. So when I ran across this little hole in the intercoastal I couldn’t pass it up. Great music, great atmosphere, great beer selection and fantastic food. Put me down as a regular because I’ll definitely be going back.

New Fave! Fish was fresh and delicious. We had the daily special which was snapper and shrimp, grilled
Pasta salad was also great. Portions were generous

I’m a foodie, (and have worked service industry all my adult life) from snooty cuisine to comfort food, there’s nothing I won’t and haven’t tried… this place is excellent! Laid back atmosphere with perfectly prepared fresh seafood! We tried some of everything it was all perfectly executed- with love (passion & attention to detail)! Portion sizes were generous. Pricing was on point. I saw a few neg reviews for portion size but as you can see from pics they were not small! I’m sure the places around it are delish but if I lived here this would be my go to & these customers are the peeps I’d choose to hang with- love the locals!

Me and a friend went here yesterday and tried several things since it was our first time. The person that rang us up and the guy making the food were both extremely nice, the atmosphere and the weather were great for sitting outside. They had a lot of options and variety of food, drinks and desserts. The shrimp burger was great. I asked for a shrimp burger with hot sauce, slaw, and ketchup and I think they gave me buffalo shrimp but that was fine. The fries were good, the slaw was really good, the mackerel tacos were good.
I ordered a sea bass dinner with fries and slaw, she asked me if I wanted to add shrimp for only $4 more and I said, yes. I’m glad I did because as you can see from the picture the sea bass were 2 very small, thin pieces of fish about 1.5 inches by 2.5 inches long. I would have been very unhappy to pay $24 for a pile of fries, slaw, and that tiny amount of fish. But the flavor of the blackened shrimp and sea bass was great. All the food was well-cooked and had great flavor. I would definitely go back for the shrimp burger.

Named for a gourd, famous for the seafood.”
Calabash, NC got its name from the humble drinking gourd, but you come here for the fried shrimp, the salty breeze, and maybe a grackle or two throwing shade from the dock.

This Waterfront Seafood Shack has all the laid-back Calabash charm—gift shop and grab-n-go in one building, cookhouse in the other, with an open hallway in between where you can catch the sea air and watch boats slip into the inlet. We sat under tiki umbrellas with cold IPAs, the locals as friendly as the breeze. Rain or shine, it’s worth the stop just for the atmosphere.

The ambiance and location is great, nestled at the end of a dead end Street in the river. The broil was really good, but the snapper and flounder lacked flavor. 1 Calabash Broil, 1 shrimp and flounder basket, 1 flounder entree and 1 catch of the day entree (snapper) with 5 drinks was $165… So a little on the expensive side. 7/1/25

Best place for fresh seafood in Calabash! The all of the staff are exceptionally friendly, Donni is very sweet and helpful with a very welcoming attitude. The owners are some of the nicest I have met & the homemade desserts are amazing. Haven’t had anything that I was not impressed with, portion sizes are perfect. Great place to sit on the back deck or under one of the grass umbrella covered tables and enjoy the view while having an exceptional lunch or dinner in Calabash! And they are pet friendly!!!

Planned to eat here as I had heard good things. Unfortunately, it was rainy and there is no indoor seating and the outdoor setup has umbrellas good only for sunshine or appearance, but offer no rain protection and the ground is rock and dirt. As my daughter is friends with and fond of the owners, will still ventured inside and got some pound cake. The young lady working was kind and apologetic about the inhospitable conditions that day. Can’t say that I was impressed, but everyone can had an off day and no control over weather. I wish they had a better set-up as this will hurt them long term, but I encourage you to visit and give them a chance – – just make sure the weather is fair.

We’ve eaten here twice. I honestly think it is a bit over rated but the atmosphere is so cute we went back a second time. You can get much better food right next door at Captain Nances but it’s just so fun to sit at the bar like seats in the back right on the water. Service was pretty slow both times we were there but it doesn’t matter because you are there to enjoy the view anyway. It’s just really relaxing and a fun place to eat. I recommend you try it at least once. Keep your eyes on the sea gulls. They like fries too and will help themselves!
