True and true, a solid very big burger is exactly what you’ll get at Paul’s, along with the best steak fries with just a hint of salt.

It’s been here as long as I can remember. No frills, no big talk from the staff. They take your order, deliver it and let you enjoy.

The place is truly authentic in decor, you would think it was a theme restaurant but it’s legit and original design.

Take a fun photo outside with the bigger than life burgers.

The average price for a respectable New York city burger and fries thus far has been a painful $27.58, so it was refreshing to see a $17.50 price point at Paul’s Da Burger for the great american combo.

I’ve hit mostly the most popular spots so far, but a passionate minority have been in my DMs RIDING for Paul’s in the East Village.

I arrived and set foot into an ambiance that felt like a time capsule to the mid 90s: Checkered table cloths, a thick vizio TV playing NY Giants highlights on loop, vintage posters littering the walls, and signs that read “You don’t get it your way. You take it my way, or you don’t get a damn thing.”

It’s a remembrance of the east village before androgynous transplants with fine line tattoos and black loafers took over. The nostalgic ambiance had me ready to pick up the Nintendo 64 sticks and play Ocarina of Time.

I sat down, put my order in for an American Cheeseburger with fries that ran $17.50, and pulled out my trusty scale from a past life to weigh this thing. It came in at a whopping 14oz, which makes it the heaviest burger we’ve had yet. You also get a healthy portion of 8.3 oz of fries.

As much as I would have loved this thing to go crazy, it’s not competing with the high level burgers. The beef is fresh ground sirloin and was juicy, but was hardly seasoned. The bun was uninspired and disintegrated after a few bites, and it was just sloppy to eat overall. 6.4/10 for me.

However I will say, sometimes I do want a cheap burger in a no frills environment when I’m battling a hangover. It helps me reset and get back to myself.

This place was very unique, the vibes was very relaxed. The portions were nice nice and the food came out quickly, unfortunately nothing was seasoned. The place wasn’t busy, we were the only ones in the restaurant. Other than that. It’s very nice and they accept credit/debit cards now.

I mean…. When in NYC you either want to try the best at all cost or try the cheaper version of it. In my case I wanted to keep it easy and local. This is a very reasonable classic American burger. Doesn’t pretend and it’s just well executed.

This place is the bomb!! Not a fancy gourmet burger, just simple and delicious. Nothing is worse in my opinion than an overly fancy burger. This is a great quality and flavor of meat and toppings, simple but fresh bun (best attribute), great fries as well. Love the service and food you get here.

First time trying this place out. Grabbed sliders and gravy cheese fries to go. The food stayed hot on my ride – the burger patty didn’t seem to be seasoned, but added with the fried onions, cheese and pickles, it was much better. I will go back for their gravy cheese fries – nostalgic. Next time i’ll try their smash burger.

Went on a quiet day so the place was empty. Sat right away. Got a smash burger which was delicious!! Retro feel with lots of nostalgic decor and funny quotes. I enjoyed this interesting stop!

The cheeseburger is the best one in the city. It was cooked medium medium just how I like it. The waitress listened. The bun although not warmed was soft and the cheese burger is easily cut into quarters the way I prefer to eat it. Perfect!!!

The burger itself was thick and beefy BUT was just not flavorful from when I was there the last time. I had some expectations going in that fell short a bit. The onion rings were just okay but the sweet potato fries made up for it. Definitely a neighborhood institution and a staple of the area. 2024.01.11

Really a 3.5 star but after you add salt to the burger it’s not bad. Very sloppy to eat as the bottom bun offers zero support.
