Caramel frappe – 5/5. I was surprised by how good the frappe was. I would definitely order this again.
Mocha – 2.5/5. This one was not very delicious. It didn’t have much mocha flavor, I wouldn’t order it again.
Bourbon shrimp and rice – 5/5. This meal was delicious. It was bursting with flavor and they put a good amount of shrimp. I would highly recommend this dish.
Chicken and waffle – 2.5/5. The waffle was good. The chicken was honestly not great. It tasted like it was cooked in old grease or something, it just had an off-putting flavor. Additionally, it was very bland. It tasted like they didn’t season the chicken/batter before cooking, and they shook some seasoning on it after it was cooked. But it really didn’t help. I wouldn’t order the chicken again.
I’m glad I finally got to try this place. I would go back to try other menu items.
Definitely will be visiting again and agai n.
There are meals you eat, and there are meals that gather you in, sit you down, and remind you why tables were invented in the first place. Our late lunch at Hidden Manna Café was firmly the latter.
Black owned, proudly rooted, and joyfully expressive, this is soul food with a Creole Cajun wink. The vibration of New Orleans moves through the menu like a brass band drifting down a side street. You can taste the lineage. You can feel the influence. This is cooking with memory, passion, and swagger.
We were three at the table and wasted no time beginning with the fried green tomatoes. Crisp without heaviness, their sweetness intact beneath a delicate golden crunch. The remoulade gleamed on the side with purpose, bright and assertive, slicing cleanly through each bite. It was a conversation starter in its own right.
For mains, I chose the bluegill fillets. Expertly handled, tender and full of flavour, they carried themselves with quiet confidence. Alongside came a potato salad that was fluffy and comforting without being weighed down, and spinach laced with garlic that felt positively elegant on the palate. Across the table, catfish made an appearance, cooked with precision and brimming with depth. Collard greens arrived exactly as they should, soulful and assured, hitting every note.
Service was warm and easy. The kind that feels natural rather than rehearsed. We finished our plates, settled the bill, and stayed. No one hurried us along. The dining room filled and turned over around us, a gentle swell of laughter and chatter. It was a pleasure to sit in a room alive with people enjoying great company and food that clearly matters.
A heartfelt thank you to the whole team. This was not just a meal, but an afternoon well spent. Hidden Manna is a Creole foodie fever dream and absolutely not to be missed.
We will give it another go
