Our first time at Mr C’s and it didn’t disappoint! We arrived at the restaurant on a Sunday, between 10:30 and 11 am, and there were plenty of seats. Our server was attentive to our needs, sorry I didn’t remember her name. The food we had was hot, fresh, and delicious! We’ll definitely be back for more!! Went back after a year , and it’s still just as amazing. The chicken was juicy and packed with flavor, and the portions were huge. Everything tasted fresh and well-seasoned, and that Kool-Aid? It hits different in the best way. The wait is a little long but I owe it to everything being fresh and crispy! Definitely worth the return trip.

No drive-thru. HUGE delicious fillet of catfish. Small fried chicken thigh lacks flavor.
The red potato salad was good, is made with mustard. Tastes like grocery store brand. Items were ordered a la carte for a good price.
Good service. Clean restroom. Looking forward to returning for a box of fried catfish in the future!
Next time I would ask for 2 tartar sauces per fillet, some ketchup, and at least one extra napkin.

Wings were perfectly fried, but the only seasoning was on the coating of the wings,, the coating was a little sweet, inside was very bland, but juicy and a little soggy. Collard greens were good but they kinda had a turnip green taste but it was good since I like both. The cabbage said southern cabbage, but this was sautéed, which I also like, but the taste was weird, yams looked like they were canned yams and not homemade, with lil too much water and some sprinkle in of syrup
I forgot to mention this on my dd order. The menu says southern cabbage and sautéed cabbage, my second time ordering this side and it was sautéed,if you call it that. Seems like there were some mixing of different foods that tasted similar, collard greens/turnip greens. The hot sauce or whatever was a weird mix of hot sauces.

I was very disappointed with the food. Although many of the pictures show delicious, looking food…much of what we received that day was either salty or greasy or very dry. It was a hefty check as well. Definitely not worth the hype or price.

Food was delicious. Sweet tea and kool-aid were good too. Did take waitress a while to come around for us as we were talking to another group. We waited for the cornbread since it wasn’t ready but that was delicious when we got it. The right side of restaurant is a little tight. My only complaint was all the waiting and trying to pay and then getting g told to go to other counter after we were already there.

The lemonade was good. The waffle was good. They brought out light skin chicken wings. I sent the wings back for fish. The mac and cheese is Velveeta cheese trash, the green didn’t taste like they were washed properly. The catfish taste like swai. I would only return to use the bathroom and get a drink. The peach cobbler was cold as they do not make it fresh. This is the equivalent of soulless food

I usually don’t write negative reviews, as I prefer to highlight what’s working and share positive experiences. However, my visit to Mr. C’s on Sunday, 5/26, at around 12:47 p.m., left me with enough concern that I feel compelled to share.
I understand that Sunday lunch is a peak time, and I’m empathetic when a restaurant is short-staffed. That said, what I witnessed during my visit was not simply a staffing issue—it was a breakdown in basic service and customer care.
After waiting about 35 minutes for a table (which I expected), several tables opened up as customers left. Instead of seating the waiting guests, the staff focused on cleaning the bar area—which wasn’t even in use—while multiple tables remained empty. Even once those tables were cleaned, no one was seated. It took another 30 minutes before any seating occurred, despite several available tables and more than 10 guests still in line. Eventually, the staff told us we could “sit wherever,” nearly an hour after we first arrived.
Once seated, service continued to be inconsistent. Despite being next in line, we were overlooked as another group’s order was taken first. When our server arrived, she seemed irritated when we tried to place our order with our drink request to save time. We tried to be understanding, acknowledging the staff shortage, but her tone grew increasingly defensive.
When we asked about a substitute for the complimentary cornbread (which was unavailable), the server seemed confused and unhelpful. Eventually, we asked for Texas toast—even if it wasn’t complimentary—just to have some bread with the meal.
The final issue was when our food arrived: one piece of chicken fell onto the table as the server handed over the basket. She started to take the entire basket back, but we asked her to just replace the dropped piece since we were hungry. She reluctantly agreed, but then told us we were being “extremely rude.” At that point, the experience had gone from frustrating to disappointing.
We stayed and ate, but the meal was overshadowed by poor service, disorganization, and a lack of hospitality. I truly hope this was just an off day, but for a restaurant that clearly has potential, better training, communication, and customer service are urgently needed—especially when staffing is low.

Flavorful food for sure but I wish the chicken wasn’t so greasy. I loved the greens and the yams for sure 5/5! I did not got to the restaurant but ordered and I will say I loved the attention to detail when my order arrived — excellent service! I’ll have to come back and check out the ambiance.

My family went here earlier in the month for our vacation at the recommendation of the Hyatt resort we were staying in. My first impression was surprising. I’m used to chicken and waffle joints appearing greasy and not the cleanest. This restaurant was impeccable. Very clean. The employees were so kind and greeted you when you walk in. The wait for the food wasn’t bad and it was so so worth it. Everything was cooked to perfection!! The kool-aid is amazing!! Blue is my favorite!! Their fried green tomatoes were so delicious and such a generous and affordable portion. The cornbread was so so good!! We ate here twice during our vacation and this will be a must stop whenever we are in San Antonio.
