VERY GOOD – a definite restaurant to try in banner elk. Service was great and the food was good. Ample parking and tons of seating – no problem getting in and seated on a Saturday night. The #18 got rave reviews from three in our group. The favorita was also a hit. There is a salsa bar with good options. Margaritas were good. The medium was quite large so I can only imagine how big the large would be.

This place was great. We were super hungry after a day on the ski slopes and this place didn’t disappoint.
The salsa bar was a nice touch and the salsa was great. The service was very fast, like less than a minute for a beer refresh. The portions were very good for the price and the food was all very good.
The reasons I gave a 4 not a 5 were because the table was not clean when we were seated and there was not drink menu on the table or in the regular menu. Maybe we just didn’t get one.

Returned to Puerto Nuevo Mexican Restaurant today, as we regularly dine there when visiting the area. It is one of two places that are on our “Must Go-To List” when we’re staying in the area, and the other happens to be closed on Mondays so it was an easy choice. The Mexican cuisine was delicious, as has been our experience on each visit, but there was a noticeable decrease in the service we received on this occasion. We had to get our server’s attention and ask for refills, he assumed we wouldn’t order dessert & brought our bills to the table before inquiring, and seemed annoyed that dessert was ordered, but stiffed me on a request for another refill. I’m not going to penalize the restaurant by downgrading it’s review stars because of one (1) employees poor service at this point, mainly because the food we received was still delicious, but we’ll definitely be asking for another server if we draw this guy on a future visit.

Puerto Nuevo Mexican & Seafood Restaurant is the place you want to go to when you want top tier mexican cuisine. It’s the first place I’ve been to with a “Salsa Bar,” which has several tasty salsas to choose from. As of this posting, I’ve dropped in twice for lunch and so far i’ve tried the “El Combo” platter (which is a great way to try several different items in one setting), and the #6 combo plate with a chiles relleno on the side. Their chiles relleno is simply the best I’ve ever tried … period! It is huge, packed with flavor, and wonderful. The enchiladas are terrific as well. If you still have room after you finish lunch or dinner, I recommend the Flan (mexican custard essentially), it alone is worth the trip.

Occasionally you come across a Mexican restaurant that has upper tier food. The unusual thing about this restaurant is it also includes a salsa bar. I have never been into a Mexican restaurant with a salsa bar. The table nachos they bring out comes with Bean dip instead of the salsa so you can go choose the salsa you want. The bean dip is unbelievably good though.

Five different enchiladas-one beef, one chicken, one beans,

cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, sour cream and rancher sauce
It was Delicious! Although I was nearly full, I decided to try the flan since I m a huge flan fan. I have never had better flan anywhere and I would come here just for the flan and a cup of coffee..It’s that good. Most flan is like a custard consistency but this one was almost as thick as cheesecake and it was very substantial and a large portion. Make sure you save room.
When driving along the road, you will almost miss it so I took an outside picture so that you can spot it easily. It looks like a castle turret.
02-09-2020 by far my favorite thing here is the chili rellenos. The flavor and beefiness along with the huge size make it my favorite item to order. I always order beans and rice with them of course. My wife ordered the fajitas and says the flavor of their fajitas are the best she’s ever had.
2021-10-11 Another fantastic meal. Chili rellenos are perfection and also love Tamales and Burritos. Flan is also fantastic!

Service is pretty quick. We were seated upon walking in and a server was our table within a few minutes. Our food took less than 10 to arrive. Everyone enjoyed their meals and they have my favorite kind of chips – thin and crispy. We never ran out of water. The reason for 4 stars is that my meal was not prepared according to the menu. When I asked for it to be corrected I was challenged by person who brought food. He proceeded to go get a menu to prove that I was wrong even though that backfired because the menu showed I was correct. This one frustration did not detract from the good food exemplary service we received from our server.

Wow! Probably our favorite find when we visited Banner Elk for a week. Without a doubt the best value among the restaurants we enjoyed during our stay. Staff was kind and attentive (extra props to Julio!) and the food was amazing! I got an enchilada plate and couldn’t believe what I got for 9 bucks. A lot to choose from on the menu and our friends loved the fajitas for 2. Extra surprise was the huge 32 ounce frozen mug of Negra Modelo draft that my wife and I shared for just $6. Love the staff, love the food and atmosphere and it was the only restaurant we visited more than once during our visit.

we were seated quickly and had drinks before chips. They have a salsa bar with some good salsas. The Puerto Nuevo Fajitas were excellent and enough for two meals. I enjoyed their refried beans. They weren’t pinto beans.
They aren’t very strong on covid protocols for staff, but they make an attempt.
