I was visiting White Bear Lake and everyone told me I had to stop at Cup and Cone — and they were right! This place is such a fun, nostalgic ice cream stand with a classic hometown feel. The soft-serve was creamy, flavorful, and stacked high, and the prices were way better than what I’m used to back home.

Even though there was a line, it moved quickly, and it honestly added to the experience. You can tell it’s a local favorite, but as a visitor I felt totally welcomed. If you’re anywhere near White Bear Lake in the summer, Cup and Cone is absolutely worth the stop!

Oh, Cup and Cone, you delightful enigma! Tucked away in charming White Bear Lake, this little ice cream haven is an absolute must-visit, even if it does play a little hard to get at first.

Stepping up to the counter, you’ll likely be greeted by a line that snakes down the side walk. “Gah! So many people!” you might think. But fear not, my sweet-toothed friend, this line moves with the efficiency of a well-oiled, ice-cream-dispensing machine. Before you know it, you’re at the front, feeling a slight pressure to make your crucial dessert decisions. (Pro tip: maybe peek at the menu online before you go to avoid the “deer in headlights” moment!)

The real magic happens once you’ve ordered. No names taken, no numbers called. They just… yell things out. Like, “Twist with cookie dough!” or “Waffle cone, sprinkles!” And somehow, through the sheer power of ice cream telepathy, you just know it’s yours. It’s confusing the first time, but trust me, by your second visit, you’ll be a seasoned Cup and Cone pro, effortlessly claiming your sugary prize.

The best part? The toppings! You get to choose your own adventure, which is always a win in my book. I went for the classic chocolate and vanilla twist cone (don’t judge, it’s a timeless masterpiece!) and added a glorious cookie dough “dip” (is it a dip? a coating? a magical cookie dough shell? Who cares, it’s delicious!). The whole experience was super fun and utterly delightful.

So, why not a perfect five stars, you ask? Well, here’s my tiny, chocolate-loving confession: the chocolate ice cream, while good, wasn’t quite as rich and deep as my cocoa-crazed heart desired. It was chocolate, don’t get me wrong, but not the most amazing chocolate I’ve ever had.

But honestly, that’s a minor quibble in the grand scheme of things. The overall experience, the fun of the line, the mystery of the pickup, and the joy of customizing your cone, made it absolutely worth the drive. If you find yourself anywhere near White Bear Lake, do yourself a favor and hit up Cup and Cone. It’s a quirky, delicious, and memorable treat!

Good soft serve but used off brand candy, maybe not the end of the world but definitely changed the taste. The service was fast and friendly, though! Glad we checked out a local place while in town!

I recently moved to the area and pass every evening after my run with my dog. I always wondered why the line went so far down the street so we finally stopped. It had just finished raining so the queue was pretty short.

I explained to the person at the window that it was my first time and they suggested I try the flavor of the week which was raspberry. I decided to have it dipped in chocolate. And, got my dog a pup cup! They ask if you want the cup smeared with peanut butter and topped with a treat. That was a definite yes for my boy!

I tried to do the tap-to-pay but my card had just expired. The staff graciously allowed me to run to the car and grab another card! I completed the transaction at a side window. I am happy to report that the ice cream was FANTASTIC! Super creamy, great flavor–not artificial like most places. I now understand why the line wraps down the street every night!

I’ve been going here for many years with my family since I was little. Food allergies prevented me from having their ice cream, but the environment and vibe has always been awesome! Definitely a staple of the community, I hope it’s here forever! I only wish they had more non dairy options.

Hoagie was great. Really enjoy the Sunset Splash in it’s dairy and non dairy forms!

Their snicker doodle ice cream cookie sandos were delicious, and went to a good local cause. Can’t wait to try the others!

The Pineapple Dole Whip Swirl with Vanilla was absolute perfection on a perfect sunny day! The vanilla shake was the Best! Their plain hot dog scrumptious! The staff fast, efficient & friendly! Waiting in line worth it for sure! The area near to sit and enjoy your ice cream of choice quite pleasant!
Highly recommend.
Would show a picture of the acquired goods but so excited to dig in that only remembered once it was all gone…trust me, it’s worth the visit. Run, don’t walk, before they close for the season.
Went back a week later to get Raspberry Dole Whip with Vanilla and Orange/Vanilla swirl with the Brats. Well worth the trip!
The Mango Dole Whip is sensational and the Black Raspberry/Vanilla swirl is simply wonderful. Always good and never disappoints. Had to get in one last run before closing for the season.
