This road ( after turning in to hwy16) is where the rainbow leads you to the most delicious hamburger ( exceptional meat patties) with a side order of garlic parmesan fries…. closest thing to heaven I have found. Brad the owner/ culinary trained chef and his gorgeous wife Destiny are the genius behind making REAL food. If you pass this place up.. you’re missing a soon to be Michelin star burger joint!
First time here. This is an adorable place to eat. They even have a drive through. They have outdoor seating in a nice pavilion and has a cute little area for children to play on. The pavilion area has cute string tea lights and heavy duty oscillating fans throughout the area. If it’s still too hot for you, they do have an ac indoor dining area in what looks like a metal roofed storage unit.
We tried the triple og cheese burger the way it comes. It comes with a canned soda and fries. The cheeseburgers are greatly seasoned. The meat is cooked well done with a bit of crispy edges but tender center. They do use American cheese. The onions are grilled. I can do without the shredded lettuce so next time I’ll order it with out. It has this pinkish sauce inside. I really didn’t taste it but that’s okay because the neat patties were perfectly delicious. The fries taste like they are air fried but I could be wrong. I just know it didn’t taste like grease or feel greasy so that is always a plus. The combos came out to $25 and change.
We also tried their soft tacos. It is well salted ground beef with lettuce, shredded cheese, and tomatoes placed inside of two mini corn tortillas. There were four mini tacos and fully stuffed. They do give you a small container of jalapeño slices. I wish they has salsa Verde instead and perhaps some lime. Regardless, they tasted good! The tortillas aren’t greasy and shockingly neither is the ground meat.
Lastly, we bought two sundaes. One caramel with two churro sticks and one chocolate syrup sundae. The vanilla ice cream is thick and not too sweet. It tastes home churned. The ice cream didn’t melt right away in this heat, which is always a plus. The chocolate syrup tasted like hersheys so not so good. The caramel sauce is way too sweet but the churros tasted pretty good almost like buttered popcorn haha. I know what? But seriously they tasted good. The inside was a bit doughy but it worked well. The two ice creams were $11.60.
Overall a great experience.
Food details: We enjoyed the burgers and fries… I tried both the smothered and regular… I like their cheese fries or plain fries best, personally. The smothered fries were good and fun to try but kinda heavy for me. The burgers were so good, flavorful and fresh. Dessert, the churros were perfectly hot and fresh, yum!
Overall this place is a gem and highly recommend making a trip here! Totally worth it!
I ordered the special: Dbl meat/Dbl cheese and bacon, with fries and a drink.
Got my food in about 8-10 mins and let me tell you!! The food was delicious!! The burger was juicy and flavorful, not messy at all. The fries were topped with a seasoning and man were they good… they were thick cuts, and didn’t stand a chance against me. Hahah.. I devoured that meal and it hit the spot! I can’t wait to come back to try more menu items.

I figured if the town could birth the King of Country Music I thought surely they could cook up a good burger. And boy was I right. The Backyard Kitchen vibe is a trendy outdoor mostly-covered deck with picnic tables and a playground. There’s child-friendly music playing (a little too child-friendly, if you ask me) and space for a performer. My favorite feature is a sign that says “Keep an eye on your kids. If you know they are bad keep two eyes on them.” The view to the town is blocked by the stylish slat wall – but I’m no fool – this is on purpose. Because you could easily forget you’re in a dying small Texas town where the nearest Target is an hour away. Then you throw a dynamite burger on the right side of that slat wall and the strawberry farms and dusty streets are long gone. I got the “OG Backyard Burger” with its double meat and cheese, backyard sauce, grilled onions, pickles, and lettuce. I wish I was getting paid a dollar for every “OG” burger I encountered because I’d be nearing a free burger any day now. But they can call this one whatever they want because it’s a strong creation – flavorful, juicy, and saucy with melty cheese. It looks like quite the ‘junior’ burger but – trust me – it’s filling. There’s a condiment table that you won’t need, especially if you get one of their loaded fries to go with your burger. The drink selection is limited… weirdly to Dr Pepper products in cans, including Dr Pepper Zero, RC Cola, and A&W Root Beer. I can appreciate the Texas theme there and I get that it’s the easiest way to offer Cokes, but come on… this is a legit eating establishment… not the junior high booster club concession stand. I’ll take back their demerit for drinks since they definitely earned an A on the burger. Cheers to The Backyard Kitchen for cooking up a stellar burger that’ll make you really love a small-town Texas burger joint!

Spring 2022- This place is a family favorite! I tried the strawberry Churro sundae and the Ghetto Bird Chicken sandwich with cheesy tator tots 11/10
2020- I went yesterday and had the ice cream- “death by chocolate,” the asada fries, and the torta al pastor. 10/10 would love to go again asap! It was so delicious and everyone was so kind. A gem in Poteet ♡
