We visited Golden Restaurant and Bakery in Tempe on a busy Saturday morning, and it was packed with locals, which says a lot about how loved this place is. We ordered cheese pies, a traditional Arab breakfast with hummus topped with meat, and a meat pie. The meat on the hummus was a really nice touch, and we also ordered some meat on the side that was flavorful and perfectly cooked. Everything tasted fresh and authentic, and the free tea made the meal feel warm and welcoming.
They also had a beautiful selection of herb sweets that looked amazing. You can tell this place has history and heart. Golden Restaurant and Bakery is one of the first Arab restaurants in Tempe, and while it started much smaller, it has grown into a larger and busier spot that still keeps its charm. The staff handled the crowd well, and the food came out quickly even with how full it was. Be sure to go out and support them — it is a true local gem with deep roots in the community.

We have been coming here for a long time. This is my kids favorite place, we all love the food here! Incredible lamb shank and chicken shawarma. Also, their chicken and beef pizza are amazing. They have great desserts too! Totally recommend this place!!

Ahmad is the best Middle Eastern dessert chef in the country. I travel throughout America for work and I’m always in pursuit of finding Middle Eastern restaurants to eat at and this by far tops any desserts I’ve had it any of them. His Knafeh is the best, all homemade including the dough and ghee. Baklawa with cashews is very unique and has an incredible taste. Visit this restaurant not only for the food but save room for dessert.

Nice location if you need a place to meet with friends from both cities.
Try the kabab/kabob plates, chicken, lamb shish, ground beef & lamb, and ground chicken served over rice with sides like hummus and salad. Enjoyed the humus, filling and yet not heavy on the tummy.
Chicken and beef shawarma are available in plates and wraps. Wraps and chicken were awesome, friends preferred beef and stayed away from the wraps.
Falafels are nice, my opinion is that the flavors are best experienced when you eat them without the wraps. Vegetables along with the falafels are welcome, but I never go beyond simple tomato sauce for falafels.
They have a few more vegetarian options besides the falafel, flatbreads and humus.
Would recommend if you enjoy this type of food.

I had some of the BEST hummus and pita that I have ever had tonight from this restaurant. I took it to a neighborhood gathering and it was devoured before all of the guests arrived… kids and adults alike loved it!Last night I ate the fattoush salad and lentil soup. Both were very tasty as well.

11/9/24 Short version: wow, what a plethora of meal, drinks, and dessert options. So many choices it was difficult to choose. Friendly staff, clean restaurant. Very happy with the experience.
Longer version: there is plenty of parking, patio seating, and it’s pretty large inside. While looking at the menu, I noticed a small alcove further inside — and saw a few more dessert choices. Yummy! The gentleman back there was super nice, explaining what was in “his” counter.
The guy at the menu register was also very polite, and was happy to explain about the Jamaica juice in their fridge. We ordered two different flavors of the Freez carbonated drinks (I regret not buying more to sample at home); the pineapple & coconut was very tasty. The Jamaica juice does not have sugar and even so, it was still pretty good, although I may add some Sprite, or even OJ to the rest.
We ordered the beef shawarma plate and hummus beef shawarma. My sister said the rice was not as flavorful as she has had elsewhere, I thoroughly enjoyed my hummus. And the pita? Oh man, it came out hot and was so good. The one guy behind the counter probably thought I was rude for staring but I was watching him brush off the flour (?) from the oven and start forming what I assume would become pita. It seriously looked so good, I told my sister, “I wonder if they’d sell us raw dough.” 🙂
The rice pudding with pistachio was so thick and creamy, I devoured it. The cheese dessert was also delicious, very mild flavor, but I only had a couple bites. I was saving it for a midnight snack.

It was fine and a nice break from my usual takeout, so I stuck with the falafel and tried the fattoush instead of my usual tabbouleh. The falafel tasted good and the pickles and tomatoes helped make up for uneven tahini, but the fattoush was pretty underwhelming and not what I expected from the menu. The staff was friendly and I like that they offer late night pickup, but it did not wow me like last time and next visit I need to finally try the wings.

So I came here with my husband after having Opa and loved Opa’s cuisine. I’m not a huge Mediterranean/Greek food lover but some of their menu items are absolutely incredible. We wanted to venture more into this food with trying a new place. Honestly, there were so many options here between appetizers, combo plates, and desserts that I was extremely overwhelmed making a choice. We over ordered and spent so much for just two people but at least we know now what we like and dislike. The pita bread is delicious, the grape leaves are so so (I like Opa’s better) the pizza was good, and the garlic sauce is very good. I’m not a huge fan of gyro meat or falafels but my husband said his was pretty good and their desserts are worth a try. Honestly, coming back I would order the pizza and pita bread with the tzatziki and garlic sauces and probably pay a 1/3 of what or bill came to. Overall, I much prefer Opa! but if you are a fan of this food then I would recommend giving a try.
