Great restaurant! A very nice place for an intimate first date, ask for a window seat if you do, or just a casual meal for some seafood.

Wait staff is quite young, could be just the night we were there, but could use some more experience. Our server Cate, was super nice and was able the navigate a busy dining room fairly well.

Food. We had a lobster roll, and pan fried haddock with a lobster dip appetizer and a few oysters. Everything was seasoned well, and was very tasty. I tried some purple rain cocktail, that wasn’t bad!

Restaurant is located in a heritage building, so the decor is very nice, old beams, etc. Down near the waterfront, a very nice location.

Definitely a restaurant to consider if you are in town for a visit.

Portions were quite small for the price. Kid food options / selection were great, though. Even though the restaurant was empty, service was rather slow, and I had to ask for some of the items / utensils more than once.

Beer was okay, but the server did not clarify wherever we wanted a bigger or a smaller beer (just brought bigger and more expensive beer by default). They also mentioned nothing about the happy hour (2-5pm, 6$ beer promo) which I believe we qualified for.

Perhaps this place is better during the summer season.

We had such a great time at this seafood spot! We ordered oysters and lobster, and honestly, they were so tasty — super fresh and full of flavor. You can really tell they know what they’re doing with seafood. Even my boyfriend, who is not seafood lover, told that this is absolutely good.

The atmosphere was really nice too — relaxed, cozy, and just a great vibe overall. There was mot too much people, so the food were coming to us pretty fast.

Our waitress was also very polite and friendly, which made the whole experience even better.

Definitely a place I’d recommend to anyone who loves good seafood. We’ll for sure be coming back!

We went early and they accommodated us instantly, on a busy Saturday night..
We ordered the smoke and pickle board, which was amazing! Then came our seafood boil, not cheap, but worth every penny. Cooked to perfection.
Our hostess was brilliant, and helped to make this an excellent night!

It was a Friday around 5pm when we pulled into a parking spot in front of this place and we thought, ‘yah, we’re hungry!’. Without reservations, it was a 3 hour wait for a table, but we were offered bar seating.

The bar staff were great, very attentive, quick and crazy personable. We had drinks, and we both ordered the open steak sandwiches. They were delicious and cooked to perfection. We cleaned those plates.

Great atmosphere, fun staff and good food. Why not go? But make reservations if you want a table.

This is definitely one of the best restaurants we’ve tried! The oysters were absolutely on point — fresh, flavorful, and a great deal with their $20 special for 10 pieces after 8 PM. We also ordered the calamari, which was really tasty with a nice crisp and well-seasoned coating. If there’s one thing I could suggest, it would be to use slightly larger pieces of squid to make each bite a bit meatier and more satisfying. Overall, the quality of the food and the great value make this place a must-visit. We’ll definitely be coming back!

We came here for dinner (2 adults, 2 kids) & all of us loved our meals. We ordered the calamari as our appetizer which was delicious. Love the aioli drizzle on top & the dip accompaniment. I ordered the Buttermilk Fish Sandwich which I will think about until I’m back in P.E.I. one day – it was THAT good! Our server told me it was many of the staff’s favourite menu item as well. My husband got the open-faced steak sandwich which was cooked to perfection. Our kids got the chicken tenders kids’ meals – 3 chicken tenders which were nicely seasoned & a generous portion of fries. BIG BONUS – if you go on a Sunday (like we did) kids meals are only $5! We didn’t have to wait too long for our food & our server was friendly & helpful. Overall, we’d definitely recommend this restaurant.

Fire exits blocked: On 22 Feb 2026, I checked the exit doors of the Merchantman Pub and found that all five of them fell short of code requirements, being either obstructed by stacks of furniture, by renovations, by snow outside, or by the absence of an Exit sign. I notified MHG of this issue.

A few days later, the Operations Manager responded with the assurance that the company is committed to safety and that safety measures are fully implemented.

On the afternoon of 27 Feb, I returned to the Merchantman. Doors remained obstructed by furniture, although less than before. Exit doorsteps remained covered with snow. There was still no Exit sign over the main exit route.

Fire risk in pubs is not a theory. In Switzerland on New Year’s Eve, 41 people were incinerated because they could not get out of a burning bar. The next time you’re in a bar or restaurant, check the fire exits. If they’re not clear and marked, talk to the manager. If they aren’t fixed on your next visit, write a Google review, and raise a stink. It’s your life you may be saving.

Located directly across from the Delta, super convenient spot for dinner and drinks. The staff were nice, and the food was fine. I’ve heard the spot is associated with Gahan, which makes sense given the vibe / food.

All the food here was good. I was very surprised by the seafood boil, huge portion and fresh and tasty. Salty for my taste but I guess that’s how it’s meant to be prepared. Special thanks to our waiter, I didn’t get his name but he was accommodating, caring, fast, efficient and just great at his job. He even gave us some tips for sightseeing. He was an older gentleman, a silver fox I would say , best employee there
