With high-quality made-to-order burgers, a ‘come as you are’ environment and a strange reverence for Chuck Norris, there’s no place else quite like Twisted Root. Way back before ‘gourmet burgers’ was a thing, Chefs Jason Boso & Quincy Hart decided to build a restaurant around half-pound, fresh ground burgers with a menu that allowed customers to build their own burgers with a list of crazy and inventive toppings. The two met in culinary school, after jobs in stock brokerages and telephone line repair. After paying their dues working the line at The Four Seasons & Pappas Bros, Jason & Quincy finally opened Twisted Root Burger Co. in the Deep Ellum neighborhood of Dallas, Texas in 2006. Twisted Root appeared on the second season of Diners, Dr
Chain with gourmet beef, turkey & vegan burgers, plus spiked shakes. Some locations have game meats.

Order: James Bahn Mi (Grilled chicken) with fried green beans and carrots.
Turcluckin (two chicken strips on a medium well patty of camel meat) with fries
The James Bahn Mi was spot on! The chicken was perfectly done, seasons, and juicy. The green beans were super good too! The breading was top notch!! The only recommendation we have was to also add some sort of citrus or heat on the sandwich. Maybe go for the sweet/spicy pickles. The Turcluckin was AMAZING! I’ve never had camel before. It was really really good! I was super lean and I would recommend medium rare. The chicken strips on the sandwich are worthy of eating separately! The breading wasn’t overbearing and the meat was juicy and hot! We’d totally have this meal over again!
Ambiance: This establishment is a really cool up to date feel! Everything is clean and tidy. Dare I say “hip”?!
Service: Everyone was very kind and helpful! The guy behind the counter that took our order was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. He’s the one that suggested camel instead of turkey for a burger. They represented their establishment extremely well!!
Our food came out without any issues and was served promptly. Unfortunately, that’s when the experience took an uncomfortable turn. The bartender (at least I believe he was the bartender) came over to our table and began trying to make conversation while we were clearly in the middle of eating and while our food was still hot. He started promoting a private literary business he was launching for children. We tried to be polite, but instead of picking up on the cues that we wanted to enjoy our meal, he continued to linger around our table.
At one point, I looked up and noticed him simply standing nearby and staring at us, which made the situation even more awkward. The restaurant wasn’t crowded, but there were enough people present to make the interaction feel uncomfortable and inappropriate.
While the food itself was good, the overall experience was negatively impacted by the staff’s behavior. Unfortunately, because of this, we won’t be returning.
4 star rating overall because the price felt excessive. It was $50+ just for the two of us. It was also a little unclean. The tables felt a little gross and lacked napkins and condiments on some. There were also dead bugs on the tables and window sills.
It came recommended and endorsed by Guy Fieri. It has to be good. In my opinion it was a fail. I got a turkey burger which I love. It was edible but that was about it. A burger should have mayo, ketchup, onion, tomatoes cheese and mustard. They don’t have mayo outside a small packet
A big fail for me. The fries are good no problems there. If you advertise craft drinks your fountain should be better equipped. The balance was off and the drink was terrible. The restrooms were dirty and trash all over. Just not my favorite dining experience. They could do better.
Oh and if you like pickles; check out the Pickle Bar area
