I had no idea there were any Islands restaurants left. It was a nice surprise.
We only ordered the Chips and Salsa and some cheesy fries, which were so good!!
The bar tender was great. He was very friendly, communicative and made a great drink.
After placing our orders, from kitchen to table was a very reasonable time of 5 to 10 minutes.
Food was served in large ceramic baskets lined with food service paper. The paper in the baskets gave it an old fashioned kind of vibe.
The basket of fries was hot, crispy and perfectly seasoned.
I ordered the Hula Burger that was topped with two generous pineapple rings and teriyaki sauce that made the burger pop!
A pal ordered a Cobb Salad with bacon bits on the side and Balsamic vinegar dressing, hold the Blue Cheese please.
Another guest ordered the grilled cheese, toasted and real cheddar cheese! It came with a side of fries.
Ample room for customers but not great for larger parties. I only noticed booths that can handle 6 guests comfortably. Large screen TV’s to catch the game!
There is a full service bar that carries a selection of Domestic and Imported beers both in bottles and on tap. There was also an array of spirits including wine and mixed drinks.
This location is in the Manhattan Beach Mall on the outside of the mall with access to the mall through a side entrance. Good for walking off all those delicious calories!
Wait staff were friendly and attentive!
Food was reasonably priced and even more reasonable during happy hour.
Service was great, food was great and we enjoyed everything from start to finish.
To add to it, my wife says “it’s starting to get chilly outside on the patio where we were sitting.” Seconds later 8 + heaters kicked on above across the whole patio.
Almost like they know how to take care of people or something.
We will be back
The second time, I specifically asked for no tomatoes due to a food allergy, and they still added them. I couldn’t risk eating it and had to throw that meal away too. Two separate times I’ve lost out on food because of careless mistakes. That’s not just frustrating—it’s unacceptable. This place clearly doesn’t check orders or care about food safety. I will never be returning.
Parking was relatively easy and free!
The burgers were good but not great. It was on the dry side, and very thin. The fries was very salty. The Cheesy Loaded Fries was very good though. Beer on tap was cold, Mai Tai was strong at a Happy Hour price.
With my feet dangling from the booth, I would smash my Tiki Tenders (chicken tenders) and my brother would demolish his Sandcastle (grilled cheese). We would split a basket of endless fries that, to this day, are my favorite fries on the planet… TO THIS DAY. That “Islands Secret Seasoning” for the fries is the real life Krabby Patty.
Our most recent trip was the most special yet. I was back in from NYC and it was my grandparents, my mom, my brother and I, and his 3 month old baby posted in a stroller. 4 generations in this thang. Beautiful if you really sit and think about it.
I’ve graduated from the tiki tenders to a Big Wave ($15.59), which is essentially just a hamburger. HUGE portion though. It also comes with a big side of their infamous fries, which in 2024 is a rarity.
Even though it hurts my soul they got rid of the endless fries, I can’t really be mad. My brother and I would actually eat our body weight in those fries back in the day lol they were forsure losing money on us.
Living in New York City, words can’t begin to describe how much I miss Islands. There is no substitute.
