Taco Maya began with the desire to provide a unique dining experience by combining authentic Mexican food, as well as fusion items inspired from various cultures. To us, that meant quality food and people. Our goal was simple, to open a restaurant serving delicious food made from scratch with the freshest ingredients. Taco Maya offers a cozy, warm and family-oriented ambiance. We value the importance of a family night-out or a business meeting. Every time I visit Chicago, one place I almost always return to is Taco Maya on West Ohio Street.
I’ve been coming here for a while now, and it has become one of my reliable taco spots in the city.
Of course, Chicago has so many places where you can eat tacos, and there are countless options around the city.
But sometimes I specifically feel like coming to Taco Maya.
The reason is simple, it’s easy, relaxed, and always consistent.
There is no stress or hassle.
It has a bit of a fast-casual or fast-food style setup, but the atmosphere still feels comfortable and welcoming.
What really stands out here is the staff.
Every time I visit, the team has such a positive and friendly energy.
They seem genuinely happy to help customers, and their good vibe makes the experience even better. It’s the kind of place where you feel comfortable sitting down and enjoying your food without feeling rushed.
My personal favorite is the shrimp taco.
It’s always fresh, flavorful, and perfectly balanced with toppings.
The corn tortillas taste great, and the ingredients feel fresh and well prepared.
The tacos are simple but done very well, which is exactly what I love about a good taco place.
One small change I noticed during this visit is that they no longer seem to run the different daily promotional specials.
I remember that Friday used to be shrimp taco day, which I always looked forward to.
It was a fun little tradition for me.
Even though the promotion is gone now, the tacos are still delicious and the prices remain very reasonable.
Another thing I always appreciate is how clean the restaurant is. The dining area is tidy, comfortable, and well maintained.
Even the restroom is always clean and properly taken care of, which I notice and appreciate when dining out.
Overall, Taco Maya continues to be a dependable and enjoyable stop whenever I’m in Chicago.
Friendly staff, tasty tacos, reasonable prices, and a relaxed atmosphere make it easy to come back again.

We came here for lunch on a Saturday. The staff was friendly and attentive, and the food was exactly what we had missed since moving away from the city: Authentic mexican food. Chips and salsa came with our order, and the sauce bar did not disappoint. Definitely recommend this location if you’re in the area.
Bathrooms are for customers, but coded, which is pretty normal down town. Everything was clean and inviting. Parking garages all over this area, do not recommend trying to find street parking.

Was in the area and decided to give it a try. I lucked up the place was empty. Ordered one Shrimp taco and two Dorado tacos. I wanted to try the Samosa taco, but the cashier told me they don’t carry it. The tacos come with chips and salsa. Chips and salsa were good. The tacos presentation was on point, but it needs more flavor. I like the cook on the Dorado taco it was crispy. The price point is high, but it’s the River North neighborhood, so it’s to be expected.

My whole experience was great. Amazing food and the salsa bar was exciting. I had the Nashville, hot chicken and the Chigon tacos 5 stars the steak was so tender (no nasty fat pieces) and the chicken was fried to perfection literally was mouthwatering crispy, and not too hot. I will order again even to go and come again. I got to sit outside on the patio on Thai nice 73 degree day. Street parking and parking lot across the street

Taco Maya offers a great selection of different taco fillings, both meat and vegetarian – we tried a variety of both and really enjoyed them. The service was friendly, value for money good, the atmosphere is okay, and overall it’s a solid spot to stop by for tasty tacos.

The food was delicious. It is hard to order on their menu from your phone. It’s hard to know what you are getting and how much comes with a dish and what comes with a dish. We did enjoy everything we ordered though. It was hot and fresh . They also had French fries for my youngest.

This place is good to get some good mexican food. Most tacos and burritos are quite affordable and they make you feel full for the night. I love they make everything fresh and staff is very nice and friendly. They are open for quite long at night so can be a great savior if you arrive into chicago a bit late and everything else gets shut for the night.

Decent vegetarian selection. The nice addition seems to be like they have an Indian fusion flavor for the vegetarian stuff like Samosa and Paneer!! Good prices for being in an expensive neighborhood. Their vegetarian Mexican Pizza is a good addition to a regular taqueria set-up. Tasty salsas and they gave chips for the table which was a nice touch.

I’ve eaten from Taco Maya three times now—twice in-store and once via delivery. Overall, the food is good and the flavors are solid. However, during my most recent visit, I found the consommé for the birria tacos to be very bland, which was disappointing. Also, the prices are definitely on the higher side—$32 for three tacos and a drink feels a bit much. Still, it’s a good spot worth trying, especially if you’re in the area.
