Mr. No Tengo Dinero
Came here for the first time after my father-in-law recently tried Asia Cafe and couldn’t stop talking about it, so our family decided to come together and experience their Chinese cuisine. From the moment we sat down, the atmosphere felt casual, welcoming, and perfect for a relaxed family meal.

As vegetarians, we were happy to see several solid options on the menu. We ordered three vegetarian dishes: water spinach, kung pao-style tofu, and eggplant. Each dish arrived hot, beautifully cooked, and full of flavor. What really stood out was how balanced everything tasted. The food wasn’t overly oily or heavy, which is something I’ve often encountered at other Chinese restaurants. Instead, the vegetables tasted fresh, the sauces were well-seasoned, and each dish felt thoughtfully prepared rather than rushed.

The water spinach was vibrant and crisp, the kung pao dish had a nice kick without overpowering the ingredients, and the eggplant was tender and comforting. Portions were generous enough to share, making it ideal for dining family-style.

Overall, we truly enjoyed the food, the quality, and the time spent together. Asia Cafe has officially earned a spot on our list of go-to places, locally.

Excellent food. Authentic food. Less showy , pleasant atmosphere, good civic sense. You wont find students working here unlike other non-american restaurants.

My second most favorite restaurant in Austin.
Been going here since 2022 and a review has been long overdue.
Regular here and have ordered multiple dishes. All have been good. Dumplings, main course, soups, fried rice, noodles.

Pros – A good variety, great quantity, quick service, reasonable prices.

Attached in picture are Mongolian lamb and spicy chicken.

I loved the food. It’s quite authentic and very reasonably priced considering the portion size. Special mention of Ricky as he was very welcoming and his recommendations were great.

We had shrimp fried rice, popcorn chicken and stir fried snap peas. And the food was good. It’s kind of a self service place and you don’t have to wait long for your food. Highly recommended for a fast, satisfying bite.

Wide selection of authentic and non authentic Chinese food on the menu. Various dishes were unavailable when we dined in. The house fish fillet with tofu was a little spicy. There are peppercorns in it that numbs your tongue for a few seconds. Salt & pepper squid was a little too salty for me but when you mix with the garlic sauce from the shrimp and scallop dish; it is perfect. The eggplant in garlic sauce is must order dish for me and it was delicious. Eggplants were cooked to the correct texture where it is not too soft and not too hard. Cannot wait to come back to try more dishes!

This is certainly one of the hidden gems of North Austin. From the outside looking in I’d imagine most people wouldn’t think much from this Chinese restaurant, but they would be wrong. This place is my favorite Chinese food anywhere. I’ve gone here a countless amounts of times and I have always really enjoyed the food.

The way this particular restaurant works is as follows. You select the dishes you want from their massive menu. Once each one of your dishes is ready, they will call your order number for you to pick up your food so you can bring it back to your table. For the best Chinese food ever, I know that seems a little strange but I assure you it is well worth it.

I frequent this restaurant with my friends and we generally have four dishes we always get: Orange Chicken, Teppan Black Peppered Beef, Salt and Pepper Fish, and Stir Fried Water Spinach. These are all superb dishes. Additionally, my friends and I will order a few new dishes with those base dishes each time so I have tried a good deal of many of the dishes they offer. More often than not the new dishes we order are just as fantastic as the above referenced ones. I can also say there Stir Fried Noodle dish is fantastic as well.

It’s also important to note that the food here is all reasonably priced and not on the expensive side. If you go here on Friday or Saturday during regular dinner hours; expect this place to be packed. Please note that this restaurant also has around three to four rooms where you and your party can exclusively eat together. Happy hunting for your favorite base dishes.

The food is very very good here!
We ordered beans, pork and fried rice, all are the best Chinese food we’ve tried in Austin.
We would like to go back very soon!
However, the servers can have better attitude toward customers.
The light is a bit too dark, and the background music is also not match the other decorations.

I’ve been to Asia Cafe several times when I lived closer in Central Austin, but after moving to South Austin, this is the first time I’ve been after many years.
Food was overall good. My family loves Asia Cafe. Portion size was pretty decent, and one thing they have not changed is that compared to many other restaurants, which has increased the price and reduced the portions.

Life’s a garden, can you dig it Michelle?
Always great hot and fresh food. I have tried several menu items and have not been let down. If you want something yummy and healthy I order the steamed shrimp and scallops and veggies and have them add a steamed jalapeno sliced in there if you want some heat. I had stir fry noodles with chicken shrimp and pork with jalapeno this evening.
