We recently visited Lucille’s Smokehouse Bar-B-Que and had a great overall experience. From the moment we arrived, the staff was welcoming and friendly, and we were seated immediately. Even though the restaurant was pretty busy that day, the service never skipped a beat—it remained attentive and genuinely pleasant throughout our visit.
The restaurant itself was clean and well-maintained, with charming Southern-style décor that added to the warm, inviting atmosphere. The vibe was lively yet comfortable, making it a great spot for a sit-down meal.
To start, we were served their complimentary biscuits, which were absolutely delicious—warm, fluffy, and a perfect way to kick off the meal.
For our main dishes, we ordered:
Pick 2 Combo: Pulled Chicken, Half BBQ Chicken, Mashed Potatoes, and Macaroni & Cheese, Southern Fried Chicken: Chicken breast dipped in buttermilk, breaded, deep-fried, topped with Grandpa’s pan gravy, served with garlic mashed potatoes and sautéed seasonal vegetables.
The half BBQ chicken was cooked perfectly—tender, juicy, and flavorful. The mashed potatoes were also very good and well-seasoned. However, the pulled chicken and macaroni and cheese were my least favorite items. The pulled chicken wasn’t bad, but the BBQ sauce was a bit too sweet for my taste; if it were less sweet, it would have been much better. As for the macaroni and cheese, it really just needs a new recipe—it didn’t do much for me flavor-wise.
On the other hand, the Southern fried chicken was excellent. It was crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and the pan gravy added great depth of flavor. The sautéed vegetables were cooked perfectly and seasoned well, making this dish a standout.
Overall: Great service, a welcoming atmosphere, and some very strong menu items. While a couple of sides didn’t hit for me, the fried chicken and BBQ chicken alone make Lucille’s worth visiting again.

Awesome specialty drinks & wine. Biscuits are good. Service is amazing – fast & super friendly. Wish the ribs were a bit more moist & the vegetables were cooked better. Other than that, we had reservations with little wait. And had a wonderful time!

I’ve been to quite a few Lucille‘s, but this one in Long Beach has been the best one. The food was real good, not dry and the service was pretty good and I was sitting at the bar. Great job.

We went to Lucilles BBQ for a holiday dinner with a group of 9 folks. We made a reservation which helped not having to wait. When we arrived we were told by the host we had to have 6 to sit down. The restaurant was not busy. While we were waiting the hostess comes back to her station and states ” 8 kids menu – What the Hell”. Not sure if she was talking to us I clarified we were all adults. She says I’m not talking to you. However, we were the only group there so??? Anyway I reexplain we had a reservation and 6 were in attendance. She tells us abruptly. Come this way. Walks to a few tables and drops a piece of paper and leaves. Was a very odd interaction. We usually go to LB Town Center and always have enjoyed good service. Maybe just a bad day for host. Server was good just took a long time to get lemonade and soda delivered to the table. We were basically done with dinner when they were finally delivered. Beer was on time and quick. But the server w a s friendly. Again the place wasn’t too busy with many open tables so who knows why soda took a while. Expensive spot for a big group, food was tasty but do better on service and host if you want all 5 stars.

Came here for take out. Helpful staff went over the menu. Separate gluten free menu made ordering easier. Took longer than expected for the order to be ready. Everything tasted great.

Hi.. ill preface by saying i have 4.3m pic views and definitely dont go out of my way to say anything bad… but– What’s up with the cooks? The BBQ sauces are amazing. The sides are great…all the ingredients are there to be Edible if not good or great. I decided to order not 1 but 2 3-item lunches and got the 1/4 chicken, 2 baby back, tri tip and rib tips. Every. Single. Barbecue item. Every. Single one. Had hard, dry bone dry portions, with the chicken being actually inedible. Not even one bite:((( Now… i would totally get it if it weren’t a BBQ joint or a place that claimed in any way to do BBQ. It was awful. Horrible. Is there a time of day if not lunch where food would be fresh and hot… is there a time of day at this location where we have a chance for tender portions? Asking for a friend… 6 out of 6 items being bad is BAD. period. And I was craving it. The experience sucked.
On a good note, the greens were great.

Visitimg Dad in SoCal and he was craving bbq. The Chicken fried chicken, lunch portion was perfect. Potatoes good, veges good as well. However, all needed additional salt. Interestingly, only pepper is on the tables, no salt. Sister did not like her Cole slaw. Said it tasted like store bought slaw. Dad loved the baby back ribs and french fries. The biscuits were great. As you can see from the pictures, their plate presentations are lacking. However, I would eat at this chain again when visiting California.
