The good: Exceptional ice cream. Very flavorful, very creamy, excellent portions.
Also very good: Found them in Portland later in the week! Went again. Also in Washington, DC (home) – didn’t even know it. And in Japan (maybe someday).
Not as good: No tasting here. While that may be a put off to some, it seemed fair to us. Wasted spoons, too much time tasting things while other customers have to wait for you. So if you must taste first go to one of the other places nearby. Or do what we did – get a flight of 4 flavors. Lots of fun.
Service: Excellent – staff knew their flavors and had good recommendations. Friendly and helpful (both in Bar Harbor and Portland).
Highly recommended.
The staff was also extremely helpful and patient as we made our selections. We tried several flavors:
• Pumpkin: This flavor was spot-on! It tasted exactly like a slice of delicious pumpkin pie—perfectly spiced and rich.
• Pistachio: This was good and quite unique! It had an enjoyable amount of pistachio flavor, but what made it interesting was the abundance of nut chunks, which added a great texture.
• Cookies and Cream: A solid classic. I’d say the base ice cream itself was okay, but the addition of the cookies certainly made it enjoyable.
• Caramel: The absolute standout! This flavor was phenomenal—rich, buttery, and incredibly satisfying.
Overall, the quality and creaminess of the ice cream, combined with the excellent service, makes this place an easy five stars. Go for the Caramel!
Now, let’s address the (frozen) elephant in the room: the service was a little chilly — and not just because of the freezers. The staff (mostly Eastern European students working for the summer) were polite but not exactly radiating joy. And the no-sample policy? Bold move. They’ve got a long explanation for it, but when a single scoop runs about $9, you kinda wish you could confirm that “Basil” isn’t just a prank flavor.
Speaking of which — I took the risk, and it paid off big time. The basil ice cream was fresh, creamy, and shockingly delicious. I loved it so much I went back the next day, proving that apparently, I’m now someone who craves herbs in dessert form.
The shop itself has a cool, minimalist vibe — clean lines with just enough whimsy to remind you you’re on vacation.
Bottom line: pricey, a little pretentious, but worth it for the creativity. You’ll roll your eyes at the rules… and then roll back the next day for another scoop.
We tried blueberry one day (which was delicious) and went back the next for a double peach and blueberry helping. Both flavors were fantastic, not too sweet but the fruit flavor really shines.
Staff were also friendly and really fast and helpful with service. Would highly recommend stopping here if you’re a dense ice cream lover
The chocolate Oreo and the Maine Sea Salt Caramel were both incredible.
It sure hit the spot. The service is also great. No samples though but after trying 4 flavors I feel you can’t go wrong
Order and pay at counter. Plenty of indoor seating.
