The sides are a rip off in my opinion. They are $4 each for about one cup serving.

I know the cost of everything has gone up, but $4 for a cup of mash potatoes from a mix is crazy.

I bought a chopped brisket sandwich, and two sides cost almost as much as the sandwich. The problem is most of these sides, like the mash potatoes, are NOT made from scratch. You can tell by their side textures that they are restaurant supply sides like Sysco or something (just add water and warm them up.) If the masses potatoes were made from scratch that might come closer to justifying 4 bucks for a scoop.

If there was a “plate” option where the sides might be cheaper, they could have suggested that, but they didn’t. And for a carry out order they STILL asked for a tip. That really irked me after getting charged $8 for beans and mashed potatoes.

I was planning to bring my family here for a meal but not anymore, the sides will bankrupt you. I won’t be coming back.

As a true bbq fan and being in Texas, the food here was not that good. Barely warm , Mac & cheese had no taste. Cafeteria style food. Good service tho. Highly do not recommend this place if you’re a bbq fan

Stopped in for lunch and ordered a chopped beef baked potato. It was okay, filling and priced right, but the beef didn’t have the smoked flavor I was hoping for. This was my first visit, and while they do offer lunch specials with Entrees and sides, I’d probably choose another BBQ spot with better options next time.

Bbq here tastes pretty good. I like the sausage not very salty. Brisket was a bit dry. Friendly service. I would come back if in the area again.

So I ended up forgetting my lunch for work and discovered this place not too far from where I had to work from. Decided to give it a shot. Good Food, Great Service. If given the chance again, I definitely want to come back again and order something different. I took one look at their menu and wanted to order one of everything. So I’m eager to come back and try their ribs!! P.S. this place is a lot bigger than what it looks like from the outside.

Looking for some good BBQ and Carl’s did not disappoint. We tried the brisket, ribs and sausage as well as a chicken fried steak. Our sides included your basic comfort food staples of mac & cheese, mashed potatoes, ranch style beans and green bean casserole. The brisket was tender with good smoked flavor and a nice bark. Ribs were juicy and tender with a sweet sauce sauce that had a nice kick of spice. Sausage was great as well. The chicken fried steak had a great fry and well seasoned batter and a nice creamy gravy. The Texas toast was perfect. We also enjoyed the house made peach cobbler and banana pudding for dessert. If you’re looking for upscale and fancy this isn’t it. Carl’s has a down to earth establishment and just plain good BBQ. Staff was very pleasant and accommodating. We really enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and great service. We will definitely be back.

This place was pretty cool. It was recommended to me by a friend who grew up in Houston so I decided to give it a try. I tried the ribs and the brisket as well as the mac and cheese. I got some dry brisket to go for my pups. The food is amazing and the sauce is next level. My only complaint is that they don’t sell the sauce to go in jars. I was on a road trip through town and couldn’t take a styrofoam container full of sauce. But if you’re local, you can definitely grab that. In my opinion, you really can’t go wrong here.

Haven’t been to Carl’s in a while. I had heard a rumor that my favorite BBQ place may close & I just had to get back. I’m so glad I did. My son and i enjoyed an amazing dinner. The food was so very good & the service was great. Clean & sanitized, Covid-19 compliant. I asked & the rumor was dispelled. I hope we can enjoy Carl’s for years to come!!
