This is a Richmond staple for Jamaican cuisine. And I pay them a visit from time to time. Unlike some other local Caribbean food spots around town Jamaica House usually is stock and never runs out of their menu items. Food is good and hot. I ordered the Jerk chicken with peas, rice, & cabbage. For the most part everything this time around was all good except for the small teaspoon amount of cabbage . I ordered carry out so the cabbage quantity was not visible until I got home. Other than that everything thing else was “Irie.” I also partook in their chicken, beef, and veggie patties. They were a decent size and had a good amount of filling. And surprisingly after a slight 15min commute home, everything was still nice and hot when got there.

The food does not taste the same as before. It definitely doesn’t taste authentic anymore. I ordered a large jerk chicken with extra gravy. Not only did I not have the extra gravy, there was barely any gravy on the chicken. The little chicken I was given. I called and the manager Aaron offered me extra gravy. After I advised him if I didn’t live 30 min away I would return the food. He also said that next time he’ll give me a free side of gravy. I also advised the chicken didn’t have much flavor just taste like baked chicken. I asked him multiple times did he think me coming back there for extra gravy was the solution to which he responded what do you want me to do. I didn’t get an apology or anything offered besides extra gravy.

Long time customer, well over 2 decades used to stand 10 toes with them when the debate of Richmond’s best Jamaican spot was ever the topic, but over the past few years right around the time they switched to their current location I’ve noticed a decline in the food be that quality, quantity and now price for what’s being served. My last order was the straw that broke the camels back. My order came to $40 it was two combination platters that had Ox tails and Curry chicken with their normal side dishes of rice & peas with cabbage. I received 3 oxtails per order and cabbage wasn’t cooked. This is intolerable for especially for someone who has so much history with this place. Curry chicken was a 5 at best. The inconsistency is also a huge factor. Sometimes my curry chicken is flavorful with potatoes and carrots but more often it’s just a few pieces of chicken and bay leaves smh. This is unacceptable. Also did I mention I paid $40 for a pair of combination platters with 3 oxtails and flavor-challenged curry chicken. Also I went around the time they opened so the expectation was high. They never came close to meeting it. A once staple is going out sad, please inject some soul back in to this place.

Amazing Jamaican food. Complex flavors. We can’t wait to come back. This place was slammed with both eat in and take out customers. It is a well oiled machine. Great service and the quality food flowed. Fast and efficient. Super nice staff. Best Oxtails ever. The Chicken curry was awesome.

My food was horrible. Got 2 curry goat dinners. My food tasted like a European made it, deep in the caucus mountains!! Will NOT be returning. Tried to let some time pass and give it another shot, food worse than the last time.

The food here is very close to being authentic, I’m not sure if there are different chefs on different days but sometimes it’s a hit and a next time it’s kind of bland.
My other issue is that because it is nestled in the heart of the downtown area, parking is a tad bit hard to get.
Nonetheless, this is my go to spot when I’m in the area.

Once upon a time customer service was taken seriously but not so much when you have incompetent managers who lack empathy. So look- I eat here all the time but I had an older lady pick up my food for the first time. I called back the representative and said make sure you hand her the limeade she’s an older lady and not aware- ok. Yes so I received my food with no limeade. I called and spoke to a manager and suggested a solution for having this lady come all the way back for an over priced drink by him gesturing a complimentary plantains/ future credit/ something. The manager said no with no care. That careless insult brings me here. Jamaica house you know what that says right?!= you value a $2 cost, over a lifetime customer & your brand/reputation. Such a dumb decision that will now have consequences more than $2. I make decisions like this everyday with my customers. I’m talking hundreds of dollars decisions, because relationships matter over money. Money comes, money goes & your establishment/ managers needs to learn what’s valuable. Employees can mess up like this but never managers. This was an easy fix and I was assisting him on finding a solution in a calm tone, ha- to no avail. Meanwhile- I will take my business elsewhere for a while! ✌

Literally best Jamaican Food in VA. Feels authentic and as if I was home in New York. I always get the Jerk and it’s on point!!! The Curry Goat, Salads, and Oxtails are also good, but I just really love the flavor and sauce on the jerk. Good price and business has been very successful for them to even open a new location. Service is good and respectful. I’ve eaten in and taken out. They moved their location from down broad street a few blocks. Indoor and outdoor seating. Food is prepared quickly. Prices are still reasonable.

Ordered online: oxtail with a quarter of jerk chicken, a quarter of island fried chicken, and a quarter of curry chicken. Unfortunately, the curry chicken wasn’t included in the bag. I live too far away to return, so I called and kindly asked them to keep the amount that would’ve covered that item as a tip; I just didn’t want the money to go to waste.
The food itself was very good, but order accuracy and communication are just as important as flavor. Hopefully, next time they’ll double-check before handing the order out, because the food really does deserve that level of care.

To be completely honest, their Brown stew chicken wasn’t hitting on Nathan. I asked them if they had white rice 3 different times and they assured me they ran out. Was forced to order rice & peas; Cool. As i’m waiting for my food I see one of the cooks scooping white rice out of the rice cooker… Picture of the plantains below speaks for itself
