I went to Leyton’s on a snowy Friday night with my husband and another couple. We had a 6:00 reservation and were the only table in the restaurant. The owner greeted us and then retired to a small bar in the front of the upstairs to chat with the customers in there. Our server was pleasant, brought our drinks and took our orders.
1) The atmosphere: The owners did a nice job of renovating the place and the decor was clean, warm and inviting.
2) Service: The server was pleasant and amiable, however, he brought the wrong food and seemed easily confused. Additionally, during the meal, he must have gone outside to smoke because he came back smelling like cigarettes.
3) We all ordered steaks. One rare, two medium rares, and one medium. They all came out very rare. The sides were all cold. We sent three of the four meals back to be recooked.
4) The French Onion Soup was absolutely disgusting. The broth was thick. (not because of the bread). Not sure how you get thick broth, but it was thick like gravy and very salty.
5) As our food was going back the owner watched, but did nothing to try and mitigate our displeasure.
This appears to be more than growing pains for a new establishment. The owner should have been in the kitchen making sure the food was cooked properly and not socializing at the service bar. The server should have been able to deliver an order without screwing up the food selections especially with no other occupied tables. He also shouldn’t have been smoking during his shift.
The hour wait for the Common Man is worth it. Avoid this place.
