Visited on Saturday 6.28.2025. The Bacon Omelet and French Toast was Amazing and Delicious. Definitely will return the next time I am in La Crosse. Highly Recommend for an outstanding home cooked meal from a local establishment.

On Wednesday morning about 7:30 my mom and I stopped in for breakfast. Small parking lot but big restaurant. I think we could have parked along either side of St James had we not squeezed in to a spot, so parking shouldn’t be a problem and shouldn’t scare you away if it’s full…there is plenty of space inside! We had told Lori twice, to come back…we needed more time w the menu. As my mom and I perused the menu, I was going to just opt for two eggs and toast. My mom asked if I’like to share a bacon omelet and apple fritter french toast? Server Lori assured my mom they were delicious. I obliged For how not busy it was it felt like it took quite a bit for our food to come out. But…..once it did… worth the wait! I unfortunately had no room for my apple fritter french toast, my mom ate hers and exclaimed “this is the first time I’ve ever had french toast and didn’t drown it in syrup…. I didn’t even need syrup.” Some bites she ate just the french toast, some she dipped the bite in a little syrup. It wasn’t loud in Marges; not sure if it’s because it wasn’t busy or they just have great acoustics, either way, it’s appreciated. I don’t know what it was about the omelet… the bacon? The oil the eggs were cooked in? I didn’t discuss w my mom her thoughts, but I thought there was a bit sweet taste to it! I liked that the tables all had small ads for local businesses! Way to keep it local/small! There was a white board on the wall w the delicious sounding daily Specials and quite a selection of pies! Thanks Marges for a delicious meal served by friendly staff in a welcoming and comfortable setting. Will stop in for lunch next time I’m in town, cheers!

Stopped today for breakfast, I heard they have Apple Fritters French Toast, so I ordered that and it was so delicious, did not even need butter or syrup. Coffee was hot , customer service was excellent and price was reasonable.

I take my diners very seriously, and this one blew it out of the water! The gal up front we learned was the owner, and her husband was in the kitchen. Everything was fresh, made to order, and so delicious. Whatever you get, they will not let you walk out hungry. Not only was the food delicious, but the owner was so sweet and hilarious, and everything on the menu was very affordable. Could not recommend this place more, and will definitely be our breakfast spot whenever in the LA Crosse area. (Picture already has some bites eaten because I couldn’t help myself!)

Quintessential mom and pop hometown cafe. Staff was friendly. Food was delicious. You will leave with enough for dinner too. Prepare to wait a bit if they are busy. Totally worth the wait. Unc’s Mess and the Apple Fritter French Toast were stand outs!

It was a busy Sunday breakfast time, but we got in pretty quick. Old school place with great food. The Uncs mess was enough for 3 meals. For the price and how much food there was it was great.

If this system had a spot for zero ide give it… walked in and seen all the locals who clearly are the reason they have the rating they do have sitting all around and no staff to sit us so we sat ourselves.. only to have people come from outside after we already sat and gave menus to them first and spoke to them very welcoming and then as the waitress came to our table, slid our menu to us and as my wife said good morning she walked away without saying a word.. so that was the sign I needed to say let’s go…
How this place is in business idk but the wait staff is terrible so I hope the food is far better than anything u can find this side of the Mississippi… because the service aint… ide rather eat McDonald’s before this place
