Great food both times. My 1st visit I had the wet burrito and it is yummy. Server was great and bar tender was amazing, she made a bomb lemonade adding tequila. 2nd time there were 2 lady waitresses and the 1 was ok the other very nasty attitude and dirty looks, makes you wonder if being in Holt irritated her …. Ya know Sundown town feeling.

My dad was in town from Traverse City and he hadn’t been fed properly all day and wanted to visit with me at the same time. I live in south Lansing so I hit Google up for some restaurant ideas in Holt and Buddies popped up. My dad is 30+ years sober so I wasn’t super sure about whether the bar atmosphere would be too overwhelming but we chanced it and we were both glad for it. Our food was really good. (I honestly can’t even remember what he got but I know he threw down lol) and I just got a dinner salad with added breaded chicken. In the middle of winter they managed to give me a plate full of tasty, not slimy or otherwise inedible lettuce and tomatoes. From experience I know that was either incredibly good luck or (more likely imo) there were people in the kitchen paying attention to what went on my plate and serving me only the good stuff, which should be the standard but unfortunately is not. Our server was very attentive and friendly without being too pushy or making us feel rushed and she even managed to give my dad the senior discount in a tactful way that only initiated mild sarcastic wit from my sire, who I don’t imagine has ever left any brief, professional exchange without dropping some kind of “wit” into it lol. And finally while the place was pretty packed with Lions fans watching a Sun game — including two tables full of them within spitting distance from us — it never got so loud we couldn’t hear our conversation and we didn’t encounter anyone loudly staggering or slurring so the copious alcohol consumption didn’t seem to bother my dad and the fact that it was even happening just sort of slid into the background pretty quickly. Overall I was pretty impressed and they have a pretty extensive menu that I plan on checking out when I return soon. I’ve already recommended this place to a few friends so hopefully I’ll have company 🙂

Great local restaurant and bar with large open space and inviting atmosphere. Excellent alternative to the national chain restaurants. The food is delicious and includes burgers, sandwiches, seafood, and Mexican dishes. There are plenty of TVs throughout to watch your favorite sports. If you are visiting the local area, this place is a “must-go-to” restaurant.

Seated immediately and server waited on us promptly. Food was out very fast and hot. Absolutely huge portions! My husband had the Wet Burrito, I had to Carnita Bowl and my cousin had the chicken Quesadilla. My pork bowl was so good! Came with rice and salsa which was probably the best I’ve ever had and I’ve eaten Mexican food out west! Definitely will come back to try other things on the menu.

The jalapeño popper pizza is literally the only thing I come here for it is the best pizza around. I order so many of them. I was so disappointed to come in tonight with my friends and realize it was not on the menu. Please put it back on the menu. Your service staff is amazing. I love the space and the atmosphere, but I have no reason to come back if you don’t have my pizza. I might come see the staff, but I probably wouldn’t order anything. I’m only giving you a five star because they are making my pizza for me anyway. I’ve had great experiences here. Ps I did not throw a temper tantrum to get my pizza. I’m not a Karen. I just asked and they said yes. Shout out to Phil and Chris.
Edit: they tried to make my pizza, but you no longer have the cream cheese or the berry sauce so there’s no point. I understand it’s probably anexpensive pizza to make. I would gladly pay more for it. I hope you take this review seriously as it makes me legitimately sad.

Comfortable and Friendly
Buddies Grill is a comfortable and safe spot. While their menu offers standard bar and grill fare, it’s consistently good. The patio is a great space, and the staff is always friendly.
Outstanding service and delicious food! I highly recommend the pizza, hamburgers , garden nachos , any of their wings, and pickle fries! The Elote dip was no bueno. I love Buddies! It’s my absolute favorite!

I normally have a good experience here, but unfortunately not with my latest trip to the breakfast buffet. The food was pretty good, but everything else was terrible. Sat there for 20 minutes before a server even came, she brought the wrong number of coffees and waters, forgot juices, forgot straws, etc. When she finally brought coffee she left before we realized there was no cream or sugar on the table (no salt either, but 3 peppers!), and it took forever for her to even come back before we could tell her. Then she eventually brought a container with some splenda and exactly 4 sugars for a table of 8 people. When we opened the silver wear rolls I realized there were no spoons, so I told her that we needed them for coffee, so she brought ME one spoon. No one else. People were using their knives or the straws she eventually brought to stir their coffee, just absurd. She didn’t pick up one single dirty plate (from 8 people making trips to the buffet) until there was a huge pile. Then complained that she couldn’t take all of them. If you’re busy, or new, or have too many tables, that’s understandable, but she didn’t say anything like that, wasn’t the least bit apologetic, just acted like we were putting her out because we had to keep asking for the things she never brought us, and continued to take forever to check on us. Again, this is a buffet. She didn’t have to take orders or bring food out. Coffee, cream and sugar, and spoons should be a no brainer. It’s not that hard. Also, the buffet ran out of bowls and also had no spoons, so I guess if you want something creamy or any of the cereal they offer, maybe use your empty water cup that never got refilled, and a fork. Very disappointing, especially since I usually have good food and good service there. Their automatic gratuity for large parties is 20%, so maybe she just didn’t have much incentive to do her job.
