Ordered on a whim after seeing an ad for their pull-up scheduled in my town. The food was not cheap and I did panic a bit after reading some reviews after I had already ordered but oooooh my god am I glad I did. Everything was FANTASTIC, perfect amount of spice, the butter sauce the potatoes and corn came in was phenomenal, and the crab legs were to diiiieee for. Last meal level delicious. I’m currently very pregnant so it was truly a transcendent experience for me lol.

I read all these negative reviews and panicked because I had already ordered from the pull up in Norfolk, Va. The pull up was delayed by a day and that also caused doubt. But when I finally picked up and got home to heat up my big boss jumbo crab cake platter, I was not disappointed at all. The crab cakes were bigger than I’ve ever had from any restaurant in any city in the area. They were all crab meat, no bread, no crazy fillers, just crab meat! Nothing was overly salty, in fact everything in the platter had crab dust seasoning on top but I could tell it was not actually cooked in season, though it was still good. The corn was fresh and sweet, the potatoes were cooked just right and were good as well. The shrimp was cooked right although I did have to add some old bay for flavor since the crab dust was peeled away with the shells. The shrimp was not cleaned as I’ve read in the reviews but I just cleaned it before eating it, much like we all have to do when eating whole blue crabs. No big deal. I will order this platter again at another time.

Brandywine location not good and highly overrated. I been a fan this past year, following them on IG and I traveled from NJ to try them. Very disappointed and not worth the trip.
I had the fried whiting and shrimp and it wasn’t good. The fish was fried to cardboard and had no taste at all, as well as the fries. The shrimp were good though, therefore the 2 stars.
My sister did enjoy her seafood rice bit not the sausage. It seemed to be under cooked and not appealing.

A week or so ago I saw an ad they were coming up from Maryland and doing pop ups around Pittsburgh. I immediately put in an order as you can’t really get good crab around here. They showed up in an unmarked truck which was kinda sketch, but my wife and I laughed figuring it would make a funny story as long as no one got sick. Ordered the Full Combo and the Big Boss crab cake platter. From the full combo, shrimp wasn’t bad but weren’t amazing either, it was missing the sausage from the order and the king crab legs were some of the smallest I’d ever seen. Kinda overpriced for what came with that. The Big Boss crab cake meal, good lord… two crab cakes that were completely average at best. Not overly big, and kinda “meh…” flavor wise. Outside of that, of the two, both were loaded with shell pieces. I guess that takes the place of filler? You could kind of eat around them in the one, but the other was inedible there were so many in it. I had to throw it away, $25 out the window on that one alone. I grew up around Baltimore, and I completely understand it’s impossible to guarantee you won’t find a sliver of shell and occasionally you may find a small piece, but holy cow… that one crab cake alone had easily four times more shell in one cake than I’ve ever gotten across all the crab cakes I’ve had over decades of eating them. Overall super overpriced, super overhyped and dramatically under delivered.

Crab boss had a pop up in New Castle, DE today. My family and I preordered yesterday for pickup only. In the first photo, you have one of the platters we ordered priced at $40. This included 1/2 pound of crab clusters, 1/2 pound of jumbo shrimp, corn, potatoes and eggs. I feel like you’re asking “well where’s the crab cluster”, oh it’s in there buried under the other food. They had to give me the smallest cluster in the bunch because it’s barely visible. I almost never do reviews, only when I feel like I’m cheated and the food is mediocre. I’m not a huge crab, seafood boil person but when I do, I’d like to enjoy it. I personally didn’t eat any of the food because of the spice level. I did call before placing my preorder and the woman I spoke with indicated the spice level wasn’t too spicy for the boil but she did state that the rice was spicy. We also ordered the stuffed salmon and Caribbean rice priced at $75 to feed 4 ppl. Honestly, more like two ppl and 1 person actually ate the entire platter. I don’t have a photo of the pan because we picked it apart but I can explain it. I uploaded a photo of two pieces I removed from the pan because the rice was too spicy for me and after all that I never ate the salmon. The salmon was stuffed with a very thin layer of a cream cheese/crabmeat/spinach mixture and topped with some type of cheese sauce. The pan was filled with a layer of rice and topped with 4 small pieces of salmon. I also noticed no vegetables were offered with any of the dishes. The presentation wasn’t enticing and we weren’t crazy about the taste. Overall, it wasn’t too bad to consume but I definitely won’t be a repeat pop up customer or visiting any of their restaurants.

Ordered from the Roanoke pop up today. I was skeptical after seeing other reviews but the Seafood Mac was soooo good. Yes a little pricey for a small container but that container was packed full. I would love to try it fresh instead of reheated but I gotta say the flavor was on point. Delivery was on time!

Today I’m reviewing Crab Boss

His store is located in Maryland. But he has pop shops all the time. He was in Albany today.

I ordered the seafood combo (1/2 pound crab 1/2 pound shrimp, egg, sausage, corn )

Also got a sea food mac and cheese

Let’s get into it

The seafood boil, was alright..
Was cooked well, like it was easy to crack the shell and the meat came out no issue. However, it was wayyy too salty.
And I like my food heavy seasoned. So if I’m saying it’s too much, it’s def too much. They could have left the butter sauce out . I didn’t eat the shrimp in the seafood boil at all. I need my shrimp pre cleaned

With the seafood combo I received 1 large crab cluster, 6 large shrimp, 2 pieces of potato, 1 piece of corn and 1 little tiny piece of sausage

The sea food mac was really good tho. Loaded with crab and shrimp . Nice and creamy. I would def get that again. Seasoned well. Not too much, not too little.

All in all
It was okay. Not sure if I would reorder

The food truck came three hours late after having a sit outside in the heat in Styrofoam coolers I guess that were thrown to the ground food all over the place not the right orders, not cooked properly, and the owner of the restaurant will not respond to any request for any type of compensation or refund. Seafood mac & cheese was dry. The shrimp was not cleaned, and the crab legs were soggy. This was prepaid so I prepaid almost $100 for this meal.

Crab Boss did a POP-UP in the 757 this past weekend, and all I have to say is… it was worth it, worth it, worth it!

I ordered the STUFFED LOBSTER PAN and the SEAFOOD MAC, and let me tell you — everything was seasoned to absolute perfection. The lobster was tender and full of flavor, and that seafood mac? Creamy, cheesy, with crab meat all through it — every forkful was a little bite of heaven.

✨ Crab Boss — where your taste buds take a vacation without you ever leaving town! ️

If Crab Boss comes back to the area, do yourself a favor and GO. Trust me, your mouth will be doing a happy dance!
