Reviews
The standout feature at Los Carnalitos is their commitment to tradition. Unlike spots that cook their pork on a flat top, Los Carnalitos uses a vertical trompo (spit). The result? Meat that is perfectly charred and crispy on the edges while remaining incredibly juicy and tender inside.
The Flavor Profile: The marinade strikes that elusive balance between savory, smoky, and slightly sweet. It’s deeply seasoned without being salty, allowing the quality of the pork to shine.
The Signature Topping: Each taco is crowned with a precise, thin slice of fresh pineapple carved straight from the top of the trompo. That burst of acidity and sweetness cuts through the richness of the pork perfectly.
The Tortillas: These aren’t your standard grocery store shells. They use fresh, house-made masa tortillas that are sturdy enough to hold the generous portions of meat but soft enough to melt away with every bite.
The Salsas: Don’t skip the avocado salsa—it’s creamy, vibrant, and adds a “fire” finish that elevates the whole experience.
Pro-Tips for Your Visit
Try the “Gringa”: If you want to take the Al Pastor to the next level, order the Gringa. It’s the same delicious pastor meat but served in a flour tortilla with melted cheese, which creates a gooey, savory wrap that is pure comfort food.
Michelin Pedigree: Los Carnalitos holds a Bib Gourmand rating, meaning you’re getting world-class culinary technique at a price that won’t break the bank.
Check the Trompo: Part of the fun is watching the “carnalitos” (brothers Luis and Alfredo) expertly shave the meat. It’s dinner and a show.

This place hits all the right notes with their dishes. They offer common Mexican dishes like Tacos, Burritos, Tostadas, Quesadillas, and Huaraches, but I also discovered some new dishes I had never heard of or tried before.
What we ordered:
I ordered three tacos—pollo, asada, and chorizo—and Gorditas. My partner ordered Pambazos and a Michelada. We didn’t know what Pambazos were before we decided to order it. My partner noticed someone at the restaurant eating it and was fascinated by it, so I looked up the menu, read the description of each item, and concluded it was Pambazos—and I was right!
The tacos were the very typical street-side tacos with double tortillas, onions, cilantro, lime, and some salsa based on the meat. The meat was tender, very well-seasoned, juicy, and delicious. The Gorditas, on the other hand, were a little too mild for my palate and had too much lettuce. They could go lighter on that, I feel.
The Pambazos (a Mexican sandwich) was heavily stuffed, with great sauces, and were absolutely delectable. One was enough for my partner to be full. The Michelada was spicy, tangy, sweet, and a great kicky drink.
Note: Pambazos are not gluten-free. For a gluten-free sandwich option, Gorditas is the way to go, as they are made with maize flour.
The ambience is very casual, and we saw a lot of Mexicans eating there, which is a good sign as it indicates the restaurant is serving quality, authentic items.
The price point is also great, where two people can be satiated and full for under $40.
I am so glad my friend recommended this place. This is my new favorite Mexican restaurant, and I plan to frequent it and try all the items on their menu!
Now you go and give it a try!
Order totaled approximately $41.67. I paid $102 because I didn’t want to get a bunch of bills. One $100 and two $1. The lady fumbled a bit and I already had my guard up thinking she is going to short change me. I noted she didn’t enter in $102 into the register so it will show what I am due.
She gave me back $43. Lots of bills including 2 $5s, perhaps to confuse me? I said, this is not correct and gave her back all $48. She fumbled a bit and I said ‘I gave you $102’. Then after more fumbling she gave me $60. And I said ‘What about the change?’? She then gave me the rest. I was not given a receipt.
I’ve seen this a few times in my life so I know what they’re doing. I just figure they do this to people who look like tourists. I very well might be since I was trying this place out.
My theory is they can pull this on a few suckers and probably get away with it. And a few who complains, gets the right change and does not post a review. Be careful here.
Food was ok, it supposed to be Michelin rated but it didn’t wow me. Had some less well know dishes but the smell of the squash blossom toping gave me phantom flower smells for a week. I never had it before but might be because it was very unique and pungent, not the result of their cooking. I do like how they use real corn tortilla. Beef tongue is pretty good but standard.
