One of my favourite local diners. I stayed in Turlock for 7 weeks and made sure we came here at least once a week for breakfast. The service is outstanding, the atmosphere is perfect for that old school diner feel and the portion sizes of the meals are generous. Everything we tried on the menu was great, especially the fall season special pumpkin pancakes!!!

The search is finally over! This place has the best biscuits and gravy in the 209 area. These biscuits are made fresh daily and you can definitely tell. They are tall and fluffy and quite filling. the gravy is smooth and creamy I can’t say it’s the best gravy around but it complements the biscuit who is the real star of the show. All the other menu items we tried were delicious as well. portions are generous and prices are on par with most other breakfast joints. Service was excellent, fast and friendly even on a bustling Saturday morning. Atmosphere is nothing fancy just straight up cafe fare with a classic local vibe.
This will absolutely be in rotation for breakfast and I am looking forward to trying the lunch menu

I’ll never get fast food breakfast again!!!
On occasion I find myself early to work and in need of a quick breakfast. I’m really tired of the overpriced, unflavored fast food options so I gave AJs a shot today and was pleasantly surprised!!! I was in and out in 10ish minutes, less time then it took for me to dump all of the available half n half’s into my coffee cup, and have a FRESH home cooked flavorful breakfast. I’ll be coming back for sure!

Extremely rude to trans people and they make it blatant. Server kept giving us dirty looks, slammed our drinks on the table, and kept ignoring us even though it was very clear we were ready to order. She was standing around talking to the cook, or cleaning tables, while every couple min looking at us with a dirty look that’s how I know she was deliberately ignoring us. We had our menus at the edge of the table there’s no way she couldn’t tell we were ready. Just wish I had her name so I could call her out directly. If this is the kind of behavior this place allows from their workers, can expect I’ll never come here again. And if you’re trans yourself, avoid this place at all costs.

Service and food came out fast. Looked good on the plate. I had the quarter back special, eggs, spinach, bacon, onions and cheese with country potatoes. The eggs were good, however the potatoes had been parboiled., which I understand is necessary to cook quickly. However they were barely grilled for the order. After we returned home both my spouse and I were sick. I can attribute it to the meal we just consumed. I don’t think they clean the grill that they prepare food on very often. We used to like dining here, however after this episode we won’t return. Too bad, as there are limited options for breakfast in turlock. That why we have to travel out of town. This is an update of my previous review. We decided to give AJ’s another chance for breakfast. We dined here on Feb. 21 and this time we weren’t disappointed and we both felt fine the rest of the day. I ordered the Portugese skillet;, chopped linguica, scrambled eggs, cheddar cheese, potatoes. The portion was large and prepared well( the potatoes were grilled).
My husband had pancakes and they were light and fluffy. Server was friendly and we received our coffee and meal quickly. I’m changing my stars
to 4 out of 5. Thanks for the improvement AJ’s! We will return for breakfast again.

Very traditional American Diner. It’s one of those places we’d always drive by and had never tried until last night!
All the food is so simple and so delicious. Nothing was over seamed or under seasoned, it all felt *just right* if you know what I mean.

I’m so happy I found this gem! While passing through Turlock I was seeking a really good breakfast place and I can say I found another place that does breakfast right. They actually serve what looks to be a great lunch. However, I was craving the pancakes that I’ve seen pictures of. I had the eggs and ham breakfast. I opted for the country potatoes which were amazing! For my bread side I ordered those delicious pancakes ! Can honestly say that I don’t remember the last time I went into a restaurant and had fresh squeezed Orange juice! They have it here!! The service was good as they kept my coffee ☕️ full which is important to me. The portions are generous and I left very content. I will be back. I highly recommend this place.

This was our first time here. My wife and I got the Campfire Scramble, Swedish Pancakes and Mangy Moose Burger. Everything was really good. Our friend ordered the mushroom, spinach and cheese omlette and it was good too. The servers were nice and attentive and we would definitely come back.

Our first time at AJ’s. The service was great and the food was delicious. My pancakes and hubby’s biscuits were SO fluffy and good!
We also both ordered eggs over medium and they were perfect, which many restaurants struggle to do on over medium.
The only thing that wasn’t great was the hot chocolate. It was…not good. Too watered down. Other than that though…
Highly recommend, definitely will go back.
