Maple Bacon Burger – 2/5: The patty wasn’t well seasoned, and the sauce was very minimal, so the sriracha aioli was barely noticeable. But the fries were the one thing they did well
BBQ Brisket Sandwich – 1.5/5: Lacked flavor overall; the brisket itself wasn’t seasoned
Philly Cheesesteak – 1.5/5: Didn’t resemble a true Philly cheesesteak and was light on meat, which made it underwhelming
My friends and I visited The Lookout Tavern on New Year’s Day around 6:00 PM with a party of 14–15 people. We fully expected a wait due to the holiday and understood the restaurant closes around 9–10 PM. What we did not expect was the extreme level of disorganization, poor communication, and lack of service that followed.
Upon arrival, the restaurant was overcrowded and claustrophobic, particularly around the host stand. The host repeatedly told guests the wait would be 15 minutes to an hour, which seemed reasonable. We were placed on the waitlist and tracked it online, showing approximately 24 people ahead of us. After an hour, we had moved only one spot. When we attempted to get clarification, the host appeared overwhelmed and unfocused, frequently walking away from the stand and giving inconsistent information.
We were then told there was a possibility we might not be seated before the kitchen closed, which was extremely frustrating given the earlier time estimates. If the actual wait was going to exceed two hours, that should have been communicated honestly from the start. We only stayed because every other restaurant nearby had 3+ hour waits.
We were finally seated approximately 2.5 hours after arrival. Initially, we were placed into three small booths meant for four people, which was completely inappropriate for a group our size, despite two large tables being available. After asking, we were eventually moved — something that should have been handled properly from the beginning.
Service and food timing were unacceptable. Orders were taken, but food arrived in scattered intervals over more than an hour. One table received food, another about 20 minutes later, and our table waited nearly an hour after the first meals were served. One guest did not receive their food until everyone else was nearly finished.
Several orders were incorrect. I have a food allergy, which was clearly communicated, yet my sandwich still came out wrong. When it was remade as a steak and cheese, the bread was ice cold, as if it had been taken directly from a freezer. Warm meat on freezing bread was inedible and a complete waste of money.
Service was minimal at best. We saw our waitress very rarely, empty drinks went unnoticed, and there was little to no check-in throughout the meal. Even as the restaurant cleared out toward closing time, attentiveness did not improve.
Overall, this was a poorly managed, frustrating experience marked by inaccurate wait times, chaotic seating, delayed and incorrect food, inattentive service, and subpar food quality. While holiday crowds are understandable, misleading guests and failing to manage large parties is not.
I would not return and do not recommend this restaurant, especially for groups larger than six. This experience fell far below acceptable standards.
