My wife and I had the most amazing dinner here. We opted for a 8pm sitting and booked online. All food served to us was absolutely amazing.

In the old Criterion hotel in secluded Carrington, the stylings of a French bistro overflow into the pavement. With an extensive wine list and a fairly traditional menu, Frenchie hits most of the notes. Confit duck Maryland was late to the table but nicely done, salade nicoise was very generous with freshly seared tuna. Cheeseburger was retro, simple but with a good patty, and the steak tartare was traditional and tasty.
You will find good renditions of simple French food in a nice setting and a nice staff.

Ahhh finally French cuisine that respects its roots but isn’t afraid to play, Frenchie well and truly delivers.
From 10/10 service, an unrivaled French wine list, escargot that melted in our mouths, and cocktails that delighted our tastebuds- what an experience!

Lovely dinner at Frenchie. Food was good with equal service from Will and Nicki. The atmosphere in the side room was a bit stilted for a single diner but the overall vibe was speak easy meets bistro which is fun. Unfortunately the weather was too awful to appreciate the outdoor Champagne Bar so will definitely be back on a warmer eve for a bubble and some crab brioche.

Cool vibe albeit a very much older crowd. Great atmosphere and service was ok, the disappointing part was the food. The French onion soup was extremely beefy but not unpleasant. The steak came out barely warm so it had definitely been rested, a bit chewier than I would have liked, chips were hot and tasty. Unfortunately there was this zucchini pasta that was just inedible but we finished off with a very nice leafy salad. Reasonable wine prices which was a surprise.

Frenchie Restaurant in Carrington (formerly the Criterion Hotel) is one of our favourites in Newcastle, where the competition is fierce. The service is extremely professional (French-speaking), the food is excellent (dare to try the beef tartare), and so is the muted ambience — music is not too loud, you can have a conversation. Linen napery adds a luxe touch, and glasses and cutlery pristine. The fine wine is imported, and reasonably priced; you can also buy it across the counter. Thursday’s “date night” is very good value. Ditto the set menu, and corners are not cut — the seven of us were very satisfied with our special occasion. On fine days one can eat outside. Street parking is liberal, and free. Being on the ground level means that access is easy. Frenchie would be my choice for a romantic evening out.

Came here for lunch today welcomed by the amazing Savannah and Anthony.
I had two Pinot grigios with an amazing pairing of Tartare de boeuf and Poulet. The food was out of this world!!!
Service and food here is so incredibly delicious and the atmosphere during the daytime is done peaceful. Will come here again for a birthday to try the set menu ❤️
Thank you to all the staff

The lighting is nice but there was no music on. The food was tasty with good ingredients. We ordered lots of little dishes and asked them to bring them out a few at a time but they just bought them all at once so they couldnt fit on our table and they got cold before we could eat them.
It took ages to try and get the wait staff to notice so I ended up just having to get up and go to the bar for to ask for things. A medium dining experience.

I have visited Frenchies 4 times now and I am always impressed! There’s nothing like this in Newcastle.
You cannot go past the Steak Frites and dessert menu. Only thing is because I’ve visited multiple times is I’ve noticed the serving sizes are not consistent

Tonight we dined like kings. The wonderful staff served the kitchens most beautiful dishes, seasoned to perfection, fresh ingredients, beautifully timed plating and service and above all delicious food. The Chefs should be commended for accommodating our request for an early main despite a busy service and a special shout out to our attentive waitress, and an even more special shout out to waiter Brock who truly made us feel at home in a French bistrot.
