Good Italian restaurant with decent choices of pizza, pasta and other items.

Unfortunately didn’t find anything outstanding about it, dishes were good, better than usual pizza places but was hoping for a stand apart kinda taste which was lacking.

Can’t try if you are in the area.

Outdoor and indoor seating available.

Host is polite and welcoming.

Staff is decent and service is usually fast.

Visited Numero 28 in Downtown Austin and absolutely loved the experience! It’s a cozy and authentic Italian restaurant with a great vibe and a perfect downtown location. The atmosphere feels warm and welcoming — ideal for both casual dinners and special outings.

I tried their pizza, caprese, and pasta, and all three dishes were amazing. The pizza was thin, crisp, and flavorful with a true Italian touch. The caprese was fresh and beautifully presented, while the pasta was perfectly cooked with rich, balanced flavors. Everything tasted authentic and freshly made.

The staff was friendly and attentive, and the overall service matched the quality of the food. Combined with the pleasant ambiance and convenient location, this place easily stands out among Austin’s Italian dining options.

Highly recommended for anyone craving delicious Italian food in a relaxed, charming setting.

Best Italian restaurant I’ve been in the US for 3 months! You can tell it is an actual Italian restaurant, delicious food, lovely staff, more than reasonable prices, authentic decoration… I ordered the pasta alla norma which was al dente. I assumed their tiramisu would be top as soon as I saw that AC Milan scarf and it didn’t disappoint! Bellisimo ristorante, don’t miss it when in Austin❤️

I’ve gotten a ton of recommendations for this place so I think I expected a little more. Their food was overall a little too heavy on the salt for my family’s taste, and I’ve had better Italian food at lesser known spots. I think their pizza is a standout though, the crust and base were some of the best I’ve had! It’s also on the expensive side considering the portions.

I’d done a review of this restaurant many years ago and noticed it no longer present. So this review is based on my last visit.
Love the cozy, small restaurant feel of the place! Great service and friendly staff! delicious foods!
I cannot speak for parking, as I generally ride my bike to downtown Austin locations. The location is easily seen from the nearby W. 2nd St and is very near the Violet Crown cinema.

“I went to Numero 28 in downtown Austin and what a gem! For a really reasonable price (great value for downtown), the quality is top-notch: fresh ingredients, handmade pasta, and authentic Southern Italian flavors. What blew me away was the cacio e pepe pasta – perfectly creamy, with just the right kick of black pepper and Pecorino cheese served tableside from the wheel… absolutely delicious, balanced, and not heavy at all! The vibe is cozy and lively, service is attentive, and everything feels genuine. Perfect for a tasty Italian meal without breaking the bank. I’ll definitely be back and highly recommend it! ”

Número 28 serves excellent Italian food and has been one of my favorite restaurants in Austin for the past four years. Dining in, the food is consistently great. I’ve had the gelato, chicken parmesan, pizza, drinks, and several pastas, and everything tastes fantastic when eaten at the restaurant. The outdoor seating is beautiful and easily one of the best parts of the experience.

The service on the floor is generally solid. The table bussers are friendly, speak Spanish, and are genuinely pleasant to interact with. There’s also an Italian-American waiter who’s consistently professional and enjoyable.

Now for the part that keeps this place from being truly great: the host stand.

I believe the host is also the owner, and the attitude is… memorable. Even worse, how you’re treated seems to depend heavily on how you look. Show up dressed nicely and you’ll magically find a table. Dress casually and you may wait over two hours. We’ve been told they would call us when the table was ready—no call ever came—and only after pushing back did a table suddenly appear about 30 minutes later. Dress code isn’t posted, but it’s clearly enforced in spirit.

One final warning: never order takeout. The portions are laughably small, and the quality drops off a cliff. I ordered cacio e pepe to go and received almost no sauce and barely any pepper—an impressive feat for a dish defined by those two things. At $25, it wasn’t just disappointing; it was insulting.

Bottom line:
Phenomenal Italian food, great atmosphere, and solid staff once you’re seated. But getting through the front door can feel like a fashion audition, and takeout should be avoided entirely. Eat there, dress well, and you’ll understand why people love it—just don’t expect consistency at the entrance

What an incredible spot! The salads, pasta, and pizza were absolutely amazing—truly authentic flavors that reminded me of my travels through Italy. It’s rare to find such genuine Italian taste in the U.S., but this place nails it. The service was outstanding: friendly, fast, and attentive. The ambience and style also perfectly captured that warm, authentic Italian vibe. I’d highly recommend this restaurant to anyone in the Austin area looking for a real taste of Italy!

As soon as my family and I walked in, we were pleasantly surprised to find our table ready and waiting. Our server, Michael, had a great attitude and made the experience even better than we expected. Since it was my mother’s 53rd birthday, they kindly treated us to free cannoli. It was our first time there and i would recommend it to anyone looking for authentic Italian cuisine.

If you are looking for authentic Italian flavors in Austin, Number 28 is the place to go. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming. The pinsa was crispy and light, and the pasta was cooked to perfection.
A special shout-out to Alessio, who made our evening truly memorable. His recommendations were spot on and his hospitality was top-notch. It’s rare to find such genuine service. We will definitely be back soon!
