I’m not going to pretend like Aoki isn’t tourist-y or overpriced. It is, and I imagine there are better hibachi styled restaurants nearby. What I can say however is that from start to finish our large group had maybe one of the best hibachi style meals we’ve ever experienced. From great service, options variety, drinks, and tasty food – everything delivered. I absolutely would come back and recommend to others looking for this kind of vibe.

The food was good, especially the grilled king oyster mushroom! The best is to order several things and share them. The atmosphere felt a bit commercial overall, just trying to serve as many customers as possible without any personal touch. For that reason, I would not go back. Also, the prices are very steep, even for Waikīkī standards. Probably because of the name.

I visited Aoki Teppanyaki in Waikiki and it turned out to be one of those dining experiences where the cooking performance becomes just as memorable as the food itself. The restaurant specializes in teppanyaki-style dining where the chef prepares the meal directly in front of guests on a large steel grill.

Once everyone is seated around the grill, the chef begins cooking and the experience quickly becomes interactive. Watching the chef handle the knives, flip ingredients, and prepare the meal with precision adds an entertaining element that keeps the entire table engaged.

The menu focuses on classic teppanyaki combinations such as steak, shrimp, chicken, and fried rice. The ingredients are cooked fresh on the grill, and the seasoning is simple so the natural flavors of the meat and seafood stand out. The fried rice is a highlight and is prepared directly on the grill with eggs, vegetables, and seasoning while the chef performs a few entertaining tricks along the way.

The atmosphere is lively and social since most tables seat several guests around the same grill. It creates a fun environment where people interact with both the chef and the rest of the table during the meal.

Service during my visit was friendly and organized, and the pacing between courses felt smooth throughout the evening.

Overall, Aoki Teppanyaki offers a classic teppanyaki dining experience in Waikiki that combines well-prepared food with an entertaining cooking performance. It is a great place for groups or anyone looking for a fun interactive dinner.

Teppanyaki is part showmanship and part cooking. Aoki (and our chef, P.J. and server Masa) have the whole package. Prices are high, but the quality and freshness of the ingredients justify it. And then there’s the cooking. Not only is P.J. a great, funny performer with excellent juggling and knife skills, he’s an excellent chef. The beef was succulent and the Maui onions, sprouts, and zucchini were beautifully cooked. Simple but perfect seasoning, too. I got the garlic fried rice, and not only was it perfect on the side, the leftovers were delicious for breakfast next day.
All well worth the price. And since it was near the end of the night we got to talk with folks a little more, sharing stories. Thank you all for a lovely night! Hope we can come back sometime.

Service was awesome. There was way too much smoke, as if some of the hoods weren’t working. The restaurant needs a little TLC. Please clean up. I shouldn’t see old rice and things under the lifted metal around the grill. This place is way too expensive for that. I really did ask if the prices were in US dollars. I really hoped that what we received matched those numbers…it didn’t. The order of food reception was weird for us. We didn’t get rice until the end. My shrimp and zucchini were cold by then. I’ve always gotten rice and veggies then meat shortly after because everything is usually cooking simultaneously for service. The food tasted good but I prefer to eat things in combination and hot.

Had a nice family dinner here. Our chef was great, had all the tricks and kept the kids laughing. I didn’t see my default steak and shrimp option, so opted for the filet which turned out nice. They serve with a ginger sauce and kind of mustardy sauce which was new for us. It was good! Back east they serve yum sauce (our chef said it’s because our hibachi places are Korean owned and they don’t serve yum in Japan), but it was available on request. Our host gave the girls an entire stack of stickers at the end of dinner, which was a nice surprise!

This was the best tuna Ive had in my life and top 3 filet mignon ive ever had. The prices seem like a lot but its a full entree meal that was worth every $.

This place is delicious! I brought my wife for her Birthday and she loved it. It’s basically a Benihana (AOKI’s Family owns those restaurants.) The food was great, the show was even better. JP was AWESOME! Very family and kid friendly (I have a 8 month and 5 year old) It’s a great option if you’re not looking to leave the Hilton Resort.

Sat outside and enjoyed a great whisky flight. One of the few places I have seen so far on this trip that offer this service. Laura and Kelly were great hostesses and offered a lot of great advice on places to see and what tours might be good options. I really enjoyed this place.

The food was very tasty but the highlight of the meal is always the preparation. The chefs are funny and very entertaining. The fried rice is definitely recommended. It can get very loud in there with the chefs entertaining and birthday celebrations. If you are sensitive to loud noise, it might be bet to go earlier when it’s not crowded or choose another restaurant.
