Chelo’s Hometown Bar & Grille – Woonsocket

  4.2 – 1,353 reviews   • Restaurant

Social Profile:

All the way back in 1955, the four sons of an immigrant millworker decided to take a chance. They opened a restaurant on Cumberland’s bustling Mendon Road with nothing to their names other than a shared dream and vision – fresh and local ingredients, prompt and friendly service, all to be had at an unbeatable value. While times change, our values don’t. As a third generation, family owned and operated company, our food is still made fresh in our commissary 7 days a week and delivered to each of our locations daily. Same ingredients, same recipes, same classic food that Rhode Islanders have come to know and love since our grandfathers first opened our doors nearly 70 years ago!

Laid-back, family-owned Rhode Island outlet serving salads, burgers & other homestyle food.

Fine spot for a meal but nothing to really rave about. The tables feel really small we were all bumping elbows and plates all night. Food was solid and service was fine. Kids liked the train that went around the room.

I always have a good meal with great attentive service at Chelo’s in Woonsocket. I recommend the buffalo chicken wrap. We never plan it, but the 1/2 price appetizers period is always a bonus. We would get something to start with regardless but in terms of value it’s always nice when what you want is discounted when you happen to show up during the right time period. This place is usually always active but I’ve never had to wait for a table with my family of 4. The servers and hosts are always attentive and friendly. The bar scene is locals and just is overall a good time to go with the friends or family. To me, the place is affordable and usually always serving some specials based on the day of the week.

Pretty depressing place, a lot of old locals. Service at bar area has been fair the (5) times I been there, only for food, never ordered a drink. The French onion soup is bland, calamari is 1/3 breaded hot peppers and can taste old oil on them. Sticks were good, last order of potato skins was pathetic, 2/8 didn’t have any bacon and looked liked heirloom potato size.
Thing which made me write review is they screw me over every time when adding my Chelo’s rewards to my account. The past three times they haven’t, was passing by today, stopped n and talked to what might have been a shift manager. Told her I didn’t get my points from yesterday’s bill either. Granted it was the annual 50% off everything day but she had no clue as to why I didn’t get points tho I presented my code to server before I got bill, even asked afterwards if points were going to get awarded for check. Assured yes, shift person looked at me like I had 2 heads today and asked if I kept receipt , if not nothing she can do and was rude about it. All the 3/4 charges that I’ve never been credited when using my Chelo’s account is on same credit card.
In summary place is depressing, food is meh, service sucks.
Btw, the meatloaf I ordered yesterday was totally unimpressive, mushy, try some bacon, apple cider vinegar n brown sugar n better bread crumbs, maybe mix in a little ketchup in the mix in it for starters and (3) not (2) small thin slices and the Chelo’s beef gravy tasted EXACTLY like Heinz jarred gravy, and the six onion rings I got for a side tasted like old oil, glad I paid 1/2 price, was okay for that.
They were clearly disorganized as well, being a 50% off day yesterday it was packed with old locals complaining about seats, taking up tables in bar area that should have been used to serve people rather than a waiting area, ppl shouting names to get a seat with no defined way of order, was an old person chaos with them shouting who they know who works there, unprofessional.

And as far as “best of” lmao, it’s Rhode Island, I could win best lasagna heating up chef boi r Dee out of the back of my truck if price is right.
May I suggest, as a person who loves gravy, Heinz has a very distinct taste, use better than bullion gravy, smh
The rotund hostess should have just done her job, told me to bring in my credit card statements n compare to my Chelo’s rewards, she came out from kitchen, maybe I disturbed her mid afternoon meal.
You earned this review, and the numerous other (1) star reviews, gave Chelo’s a fair shot and they failed in every aspect.
Find it hard to believe the manager wouldn’t say bring in you credit card bill, compare it to my rewards n apologize for incompetence/thievery.
I have my credit card bill, last activity on my Chelo’s account was me not redeeming a free desert on app, pathetic

Chelo’s is a local favorite. Nice family owned and run for over 40 years. We were seated quickly in the Solarium area. Our waiter, Jordy is, as always, fantastic. Our orders taken quickly and pleasantly. Our food came in a reasonable time and was delicious. They have a great selection of desserts. We usually take home a slice of chocolate cake.

Today, I spent some time with my Aunt, who I insisted she pick the place we go out to eat, because she let me pick the place 2 times before today. She chose Chelo’s. We both ordered fish and chips, and neither one of us was disappointed. The fish was cooked to perfection, golden brown crust that was edible the whole way through, not greasy at all, and seriously flaky and moist. She commented to me the fish was much better than the fish and chips place her mom used to frequent. I had to agree with her. The only 2 employees that were working the tables

My family had a reservation for 13 people (and let me tell you we were not the easiest crowd lol) But our server Tiffany was absolutely amazing (and hilarious). Everything we ordered came out great and she was SO attentive.

We came after a wake and Tiffany definitely helped lift our spirits. 10/10 recommend !!!

I didnt want to complain but it could help. I ordered a turkey club and ultimate nachos to go. I just had a child at landmark and my wife really wanted the nachos. The nachos were in a cardboard box(why, I’ve worked in restaurants for 10 years. This makes no sense) soggy, terrible, stale, absolutely inedible. The nurse came and threw them away before I could take a picture. Im sick of paying x amounts of money after how EXPENSIVE EVERYTHING IS NOW and receiving scrappy product. Stop raising your prices if you arent going to improve your quality.
Raise your standards chelos! Don’t be lazy and stay ontop of everyone working so we dont receive stale soggy nachos in a damn cardboard box!! No stars!!

Hadn’t been to this location in years. Went there for an early Fathers day dinner and was not happy with the quality of food. I had the Prime Rib which was cold and very tough and the baked potato was hard and dried out. Chrissy our waitress was outstanding though. I should have said something while there but I don’t like to complain and I didn’t want to ruin my sons day. Not sure if we’ll ever go back at that location. This is the first time I’ve ever been disappointed at any Chelos. Richard

Always a roll of the dice here. Never bad but never awesome. Food is usually good. Just need to be a little more consistent
