Two years ago, I would have given ReDefine five stars. I was a big fan, recommended it to family and friends and coworkers. But lately, in addition to a slight uptick in prices, I have had a few bad experiences at their Patchogue branch that made me feel manipulated and, frankly, unappreciated as a loyal customer.
The girl at the register said I wasn’t allowed to use a $50 gift card in store because it was only for online orders, but when I ordered enough meals to stay under $50 (so $47-something) the website only accepted a minimum total of $50. I had to buy an additional item that exceeded my gift card. Fortunately, there was a “2026” promo code that discounted the additional meal and brought the grand total back down below $50. But had there not been a code, I would have had to pay more when someone had already given ReDefine money for a gift card. Why would they even offer a $50 gift card for online purchases if an order would ultimately need more money?
Then today, in a pinch, I finally went to use the 2,000 points I had saved up for a free meal, but the boy at the register was “pretty sure” I had to use all the points at once or “lose out on, like, nine dollars” in rewards. But 2,000 points was not enough to cover two meals, so in the end I had to spend money in order to pay the difference (it was just over $2 but that’s not the point, and maybe I would have liked to saved my remaining points for a future meal). Just to give the benefit of the doubt, maybe the teenager behind the register was new and didn’t know what he was talking about. I was in a rush and chose not to challenge him. But if that’s accurate, that’s a really misleading Reward system, especially for customers who have weekly subscriptions such as myself.
I’ve been a loyal customer with ReDefine for two years. I’ve always seen their potential. I like where they started. The food is great and it’s clear everyone loves them. I’m sure they’ve had to change policies as a result of their growing popularity. I want them to succeed. But some of these slimier practices will turn me, a loyal customer of two years with a weekly subscription, and possibly others, away from them if they keep stuff like this up.
he patchoge location. This was my first time coming in and he was great showing me all the meals and telling me about them. Amazing employee and very friendly will be coming here more often.
