The food was outstanding. The burger was cooked perfectly, juicy, flavorful, and topped with thick, crispy bacon and melted cheese that brought everything together. This was my second visit to the Universal Joint. Great place in downtown Chattanooga. It’s an old service station, oil change place from many years ago. Myself & a couple other Motorcoach driver’s cam in for lunch. We all had Burgers, Fries & Tater Tots. Everything was delicious. There is also outdoor seating on the large patio available. Our wonderful server was Crimson. She was very polite, professional and just a Sweetheart.

Had dinner at Universal Joint in downtown Chattanooga and loved everything about it! We went on a Thursday around 5:30 and were seated right away. Our waitress was super friendly and attentive, and the food came out fast. I had the mushroom Swiss burger and it was delicious, but the real star of the night was the tater tots—crispy, golden perfection. My daughter raved about the fish tacos, and the whole table couldn’t stop talking about how good everything was.
The drink menu has some great options, and the atmosphere is awesome—set in what looks like an old gas/service station with cool, laid-back vibes. It’s the kind of place that feels casual but still special, whether you’re out with friends, family, or on a casual date night. Prices are really reasonable for the quality, too.
If you’re in Chattanooga, this spot is a must-try. Be sure to check out the patio when the weather’s nice—it’s the perfect hangout spot.

First time eating here and it was delicious. The whole party loved everything they had. The drinks are very good as well. Our waitress was super sweet… we all loved her vibe and service was great. Great location for dinner before a show!

Nothing special. The food was fine. My wife had the smashburger off the appetizer part of the menu. She liked the smashburger and thought the fries were nothing special. I had the mushroom swiss burger and tater tots. I’ve had better mushroom swiss burgers at Hardee’s. The mushrooms weren’t particularly sauteed and it comes with odd toppings. The tater tots were tasty, but could have been crispier. My beer was either not poured well or was a bad tap.
On a positive note, the server was attentive and the ranch was really good.

The good: awesome retro gas station bar. If you’re a fan of art deco, you’ll dig it. Max stars for environment. A good selection of beers on tap. Friendly and attentive staff, which has been a rarity in Chattanooga lately.
The OK: the food. OK is the best way to describe it. Remarkably mediocre. Under seasoned and underwhelming. The thought was better than the execution. Poor ratio of protein to bread on the sandwiches, but the tots were on point.
Overall a great place for a beer and just an OK place for a meal.

Universal Joint Downtown Chattanooga absolutely nailed it with their very first drag brunch! The energy was incredible, the queens were iconic, and the food was genuinely amazing—everything was fresh, flavorful, and worth coming back for. ✨

Arrived to a “seat yourself” sign – which is what I did. It wasn’t until 10 mins after that we even received menus to begin looking. Two different servers came over asking for drink orders. It seemed like they didn’t know who had our table. 15 minutes after that we received our drinks. A few minutes later the OTHER of our two servers came to take a food order. My party got two burger meals and a side of tater tots. Finally, 50 minutes after we received our first drinks, we got our food. My Burger never came with the side of ranch sauce that I requested, so I asked not one, but both of our servers in hopes that I would receive it from one quicker than the other. After I finish my entire burger, neither of our servers were back with the ranch. I myself work at a restaurant so I am not one to judge under small circumstances, however, the service should not be this pitiful on a tuesday afternoon.
