The Texan comes with brisket, turkey, pulled pork, a sausage, two rolls, two pieces of cornbread, fried onions and pickles, and two sides. I chose macaroni and cheese and was recommended the sweet potato fries, so I went with those.
Let’s start with the best, the pulled pork. By far the pulled pork was the best protein on the tray. It just melted in my mouth, and I drenched it with two different BBQ sauces. (They have four in total, all unique and delicious.)
The brisket was my next favorite. It also was cooked perfectly and was so tender. Full of flavor and was seasoned well.
The sausage was good. They get it local I found out, and it was cooked perfectly. I will say, it was good, but I would pass on it for either the pulled pork or brisket when I come back.
The turkey was the only disappointment. Man it was dry. But then again, it’s turkey. So I just drenched it in BBQ sauce and moved on.
I was happy the meal came dressed with onions and pickles. I prefer the onions to be fresh, but the batter on the onions was really tasty.
The rolls I could have lived without. Just seemed like bland store bought rolls. Just give me a pair of white bread slices, or even Hawaiian rolls instead.
The cornbread, whisky bajeebus the cornbread. I make my own cornbread, and I’ve tried well over two dozen recipes. I have never had or made cornbread that was as light and fluffy as this. Best cornbread I’ve ever had. And they sweeten it, which I really like.
The sides were spot on. The macaroni and cheese was ooey and gooey and delish. The sweet potato fries were fried perfectly to have a crunch and yet still light and airy on the inside. Their dipping sauce, which seems to be a brown sugar cinnamon concoction, is ridiculously yummy.
Lastly, I decided to order the fried bread pudding. In a word, yes. Yes it was delicious. Yes it was served piping hot. Yes I recommend getting it.
All in all, one of the best BBQ experiences I’ve had in Ohio. I can’t say it measures up to my favorite spots in Houston. But it would definitely be above average in the South.
Will be back. Many times probably.
It was able to accommodate roughly 15 guests in the side room area. It took a little longer to get food which we understood, about 30-40 minutes. But once we got it, we dug in and enjoyed every last bite. I had pulled pork. Green beans and Mac and cheese and I’d definitely order it again!
What makes it worst is they tried to charge me for 2 sides without giving me advanced notice first. Some friends I was with got the dry sliced Brisket as well and asked for it to be changed to chopped Brisket which was a little better and they didn’t get charged for it. I’m sure the meat is more expensive than the sides. They tried to say it’s because they had to make the sides and that’s a charge. But when I asked to change my side, the waitress didn’t say there’d be a charge for the change so I’m aware and she took the dry mac-n-cheese back. So you want me to pay for something you took back and didn’t inform me would change my bill? Right. The manager was supposed to come talk to me about it which I would have been glad to explain, but I guess the manager couldn’t be bothered. So, they just removed it and gave me an updated bill.
My overall experience was not pleasant at all!
I had the Meat Sliders, pork, turkey and chicken, they were delicious and juicy! Sometimes pulled chicken is really dry…not this. The fries were really good as well!
We Sat at the bar and the bartender (Megan) was welcoming, friendly and knowledgeable.
We absolutely will be back. Soon!
