BELLA HOME
I really wanted to give Five Happiness another chance, but unfortunately this visit reminded me why I stopped going there.
I spent about $80 after tip for two entrées and combination dishes including Mongolian beef, sweet and sour chicken, combination lo mein, and combination fried rice.
The Mongolian beef was disappointing. Traditionally it should mainly be beef and green onions, but this dish was full of vegetables and very little beef. The sweet and sour chicken was extremely over-fried. There is a difference between crispy and dry, and the chicken was so hard and dry that it was difficult to eat.
The combination lo mein was also disappointing. The noodles were very mushy, and it looked like they put a large amount of noodles on the bottom with just a small amount of shrimp and toppings placed on top to make it appear full, without really mixing it.
The only thing that was decent was the combination fried rice.
What made the experience worse was the interaction afterward. When I mentioned to the owner that the chicken seemed over-fried, she said it was “supposed to be crispy” and even said it was “supposed to be a little dry.” Unfortunately, there’s a big difference between crispy and dry. There was no attempt to fix the issue or offer any solution.
Sadly, this experience reminded me why I stopped going there in the first place. For the price and quality, there are much better Chinese food options in the area.

This was the saddest and nastiest food ever. You can tell the food wasn’t fresh and that they use frozen ingredients. I’ve tried this place 3 times so far and each time it gets worse. If you are thinking about eating here please do yourself a favor and find a different place. Trust me you will thank me later.

I had purchased the sweet and sour chicken with the shrimp fried rice dinner meal. The chicken was plan making it taste dry. The rice was ok. Overall, nothing was special about the food.

I hate to rate poorly, but this was the worst Chinese food I’ve ever had. The Chinese food in the mall is better. All of the food lacked flavor and salt. The double cooked pork was about 5 pieces of meat and the rest was vegetables. The mandarin chicken was a fried chicken cutlet with a bizarre tasting sauce on the side. I was very disappointed with this food.

I just would like to preface this by saying that this is no shade to any employees of this establishment behavior wise, everyone was really nice. BUT, but, but the food really does not taste good. I ordered takeout and grabbed vegetable egg foo young with white rice and spring rolls since I am vegetarian. They had nice and swift service and the front desk hosts were kind, but the actual meal was REALLY not good; I cannot emphasize on that enough. The egg foo young tasted like rubber and grit, and they also added type type of salad on top of the food-I’m not sure why they did that, the only decent food item was the white rice. The vegetable gravy, egg foo young, and spring rolls were extremely bland, I was quite surprised on how unseasoned the food was, it was also VERY oily. I don’t have any cardiovascular problems, but please be aware if you would go to try this restaurant’s food. Overall, the atmosphere and service beats the actual food, which is a bit strange and unbalanced for a restaurant. I hope to see a better future for this restaurant, because it has potential.

This was the worst food we’ve ever received. The Hot & Sour soup was bland and tasted like water. The egg roll was mushy, and the shrimp was simply placed on top of rice that had absolutely no flavor. The pepper steak was dry. 1 small package of sweet sauce was given. We ended up throwing everything away. We’ve been loyal customers for 30 years and will never go back. My husband wondered if Ms. Peggy had sold the restaurant and yes she has. While our last few visits weren’t great, they were nothing like this. This time was truly horrible.

I will like to say that I used to love going to five happiness haven’t ate there in 22 years since i was a little boy i was like 5 years old the last time I ate there.

I am his panic
But I love Chinese food

Back then the food here was so delicious
I used to love their fried rice

It had delicious pork and shrimp in it and the egg was cooked to perfection
More green onions than you can dream of

It was my favorite dish
this was the days where they still were wearing the most beautiful cheongsams dresses

and smiled at a big family dining in

my dad couldn’t wait to eat the duck

But my experience was awful this this time
When I walked in no one greeted me
Or looked up
I thought to myself ok ” busy”
It took a while
But tiffany the cashier stop pretending to not to notice me and finally said something

So I wanted a table but let’s just say that i didn’t get it
But to make a long story short

I ended up just getting my food to go

(Big mistake)

The food was awful I had sesame chicken

Fried rice and an egg roll

The egg roll was so old, hard , and greasy

Sesame chicken was cold and dry
As if they cooked it days ago

And the worse was the Fried rice

I paid $40 bucks for nothing super expensive for cr ap

Like It was cooked by someone who wasn’t Chinese or bl ack

I can tell.

The Fried rice taste like mush it was all gummy and over cooked

Shrimp, chicken, pork and egg was super bland no flavor no seasoning

The soy sauce didn’t even help

I threw it away and threw up 6 times

Worse experience in life at a Chinese restaurant

Well since I won’t be going back

They need to change the name of this place from ” five happiness ” to 6 sadness

Because after me throwing up 6 times it made me very sad .

One of our favorite deliver options. Don’t get me wrong it’s a nice place to dine in as well. But it’s close to our office and the deliveries typically come pretty quick. Anyway, beyond the traditional Chinese dishes, I love the 1/2 duck, it’s a nice big meal and not as expensive as the full peeking duck, that is also excellent.

One of the most well-known and established Chinese restaurants in the New Orleans area. I have been here many times, and am basing my comments on all the visits.

First, the food. The food is generally excellent – some dishes are more to my liking than others, but I really enjoy everything I get here. Wonderful.

The service leaves a little to be desired. The staff is friendly, but every time I come here it seems I have to wait a while before I get what I need. I do eventually get their attention, but I just don’t care for the wait.

Atmosphere – very nice! There is no fluorescent lighting, it’s not too bright and they play Chinese music in the background… but it is too low and you can barely hear it. Just a *little* louder tonight.

Overall, I have never had a bad dining experience here. I will continue to dine here and try new items on their menu.

Hands down the best Chinese food in New Orleans (and the Northshore for that matter). I usually stop by at the Five Happiness after shopping at Costco since its right across the street. On Tuesday, we tried couple of dinner platters for $14.99 per person which comes with egg roll, soup (wanton and hot and sour), shrimp fried rice and choice of one of the entrees, beef with broccoli in hot garlic sauce and General’s chicken. We’ve tried their lunch menu and house specialties and everything is good here so do give it a try. Service is always courteous, prompt and professional.
