Good attention to service, yummy chips and hot sauce. I ordered Chicken Tortilla soup which came with lots of veggie sides and cheese. The Chicken Tortilla soup was warm and delicious. El Loro is a very spacious and comfortable restaurant with nice views of the lake. My friend ordered a dish called Yolandas looked like enchiladas to me and it has a nice little guacamole salad with it. Big menu lots of choices oh and I had a very tasty mushroom quesadilla too. Very relaxing spot in lakes area.

Surprisingly not busy when we stopped in on a Sunday afternoon. We were able to enjoy our visit in a space that felt comfortable, given genuinely friendly service, and were more than full when we left. We’d have taken a to go box if not for the food being so good.

The food was wonderful. The service, not as much. We didn’t get waited on for at least 10 minutes, not even water was offered. I was beginning to wonder if we were supposed to go up and order our food, even though it seemed like a sit down restaurant. We finally just got up to help ourselves to the fountain machine as it seemed that’s what others were doing, and we were only interested in waters, but the water was carbonated and not to our liking. Thankfully the food delivered, otherwise the score would’ve been lower.

Service was not great. Did not get chips and salsa until we had to ask for it. But the table seated after us got their chips and salsa right away.
Food was good, but we have had better at different El Loro locations, our rice was luke warm. Had to flag down someone for our check, they never checked on us after serving the food.

The building is a pavilion so nice architecture. The chips served warm and fresh tasting but thought salsa was just average. I had carne asada and it definitely was delicious and tasted fresh off a grill. My mom said her margarita was good. The service could have been more prompt. We were seated right away though. It’s a big place you definitely could go here with a lot of people it’s nice being right by Detroit Lake. I enjoyed my meal.

Not the best visit. Very slow service tonight. I ordered one of the specialties, the El Gavilan. I was looking forward to the pablano pepper. There was no Pablano pepper, just green peppers, and not at all resembling the photo on the menu. The taste of it was good. My husband had the tilapia… Which took some time to be cooked. People came and went as we waited…

My granddaughter and I went there for lunch. Got the chips and salsa right away, but the server seemed cranky, no smile, just deadpan. My rellano was awful. It was a paper thin chili pepper and a huge abundance of mushy creamy cheese that poured out all over my whole plate.
We could not get a drink refill. When I finally got her attention, she audibly groaned at having to fill my granddaughter’s drink. I finally flagged down a different server and she took care of some of our needs.
In the meantime, our server was sitting in the corner eating with her children. She was actually teed off that we asked for a refill on the drink. We had to ask for our check from a different server.
I will never go there again. I do not recommend this place.
UPDATE: Against my better judgment, I ate at El Loro restaurant again. I did not choose the place. It was for a niece’s birthday.
I do not recommend eating at El Loro restaurant in Detroit Lakes. That bushy stuff in the first picture is stems from peppers that were apparently supposed to be discarded and ended up inside my burrito. I was chewing it, and I said what have I got in my mouth? Straw?
But that was just the beginning. We wait ed 25 minutes to order. And then we waited 50 minutes for our food. And the food was so poor, that I could eat it. The green chili in the relleno was as thin as paper. You could not even taste if there was a pepper in it.

The truth is I really hate making bad reviews. I really like this restaurant, I’ve been going for years and have spent hundreds of dollars there since they opened years ago. But the last experience was bad. I ordered two salads to go. One of the salads did not have any lettuce, when I called to speak with the manager, I was told they weren’t there and to call back later. When I called back today, I was told I would have to come into the store for any kind of reimbursement and that all I would receive is a maximum of $5 back. For a salad that I paid over $15 for. It’s shocking and sad that they have no desire to make things right in this case.

The food is good, service could use a little more social practice. The drinks are great and they are willing to swap out Liquor on the blended drinks because let’s face it not everyone likes rum in their Daiquiri.
The queso with pico is nice and spicy if you have a low spice tolerance. The enchiladas were wonderful. I would go back for the food and drinks but not the service.
