Maple Donuts in York County has been sold – ABC27
Reviews
Update: went back during new hours, still disappointed. Arrived in the afternoon to a pretty rough looking display of donuts. Confirmed by asking that they did not plan to restock anything, which is also a lie because they were putting out a ton of full trays after close when I came here first. They must let those sit out from closing time until next days open – don’t show up at 5am expecting fresh donuts, they’ve been sitting out getting stale since close.
The girl with the big forehead has a nasty attitude. I recognized her from the first visit – the one that annoyedly pointed at the clock and held up fingers to signify closing time to another group that got turned away by the locked door. She was just as impatient and unfriendly at the counter. She offered no advice or recommendations, and made it seem like doing her job of filling out a dozen was an inconvenience.
They didn’t even have maple frosted donuts. I was hoping that a place named after my favorite type of donut would actually have it stocked. When I asked if there were any maple frosted, she flatly said no. I ordered a French toast donut, which ended up being maple frosted with cinnamon sugar. Someone with customer service skills, who puts in any effort, would have recommended this donut after being told “we’re out of maple”
After all that – driving here and back twice, dealing with unposted hour changes, nasty attitudes, ransacked donut cases they lie about restocking, I finally got to eat the donuts… and they were not great. If you live nearby in York, it beats dunkin… but that’s about it. Very mediocre.
I’m convinced – any maple donut die hards out there are either locked in by nostalgia or simply haven’t had a really good donut. Big Belly Deli & Bakery Express blow this place out of the water. Maybe I missed the glory days of this place, others report the quality has dropped off since it was recently sold. Either way, you should take this place off your donut bucket list. Never coming back.
This is my first time and it will be my last time after I tried the donuts here.
People are nice, service is good and atmosphere is okay but I couldn’t find a restroom here, may be I didn’t look hard enough and no, I didn’t ask.
The donuts here are below average, am not sure but I think the blank donuts are frozen, even if not, the donuts doesn’t taste pleasant at all, not fresh and the taste oily. I could smell the yeast coming out of inside the dough which made my appetite shut down instantly. Coffee is okay.
2 starts
We noticed they offered breakfast sandwiches, so we decided to sit at the coffee bar for table service. That’s where things started to go downhill. While the staff was pleasant, they seemed a bit lost. Our coffees were prepared incorrectly, missing simple things like milk and sweetener. It took several reminders before those items finally made it to the table.
When the donuts were served, they were placed directly on the countertop with only a small piece of wax paper underneath—which wasn’t exactly appetizing. When milk was finally brought over for one of the coffees, no spoon came with it. It took another customer asking the server before we learned they apparently had just one spoon to share. We then waited over 10 minutes for sugar for the second coffee.
As for the breakfast sandwiches, they were… an experience. The eggs were cracked fresh and scrambled in front of us with a splash of half-and-half—but then cooked in the microwave. Both the eggs and sausage were handled by the same server who seemed to be doing everything. For a place centered around breakfast, you’d expect them to stand out from typical microwave fare, but unfortunately, that wasn’t the case. The sandwich was barely edible.
The highlight, thankfully, was the donuts. They were large, dense, and flavorful—just how I like them. We’d happily buy the donuts again, but probably from a different location or in a store. As for dining in, it’s not a trip we’d make again.
Was served immediately. Staff was friendly and personable.
We are from out of town and definitely was worth the stop and I found this place off a whim browsing near by spots. Definitely recommend stopping for breakfast or any time for a sweet snack.
The only good thing here is that drivers can use the restroom, and there’s a donut and coffee shop in the front of the building. I’m rating this place 2 stars because the check-in staff were polite and helpful despite the long wait
