Went to celebrate the holidays, and had a great dinner. We ordered the hibachi which started with the soup and salad, and both were very good. Next the chef prepared shrimp, which I’ve never been a big fan of, but it was actually pretty good when accompanied with the sauces.
Then the main dish was prepared along with the theatrics which our grandsons really enjoyed, though the youngest was a little frightened when the fire flared.
The steak I ordered was very good, and each entree was cooked to order. My partner had the salmon, which she said was very good. The vegetables and mushrooms were also really tasty.
Desert was ice cream, with a choice of vanilla or orange sherbet. The vanilla was good, and the sherbet was very tangy.
We really enjoyed the meal and would definitely return.

In town for a great UMCVB conference!Decided to head over next door and enjoy some late dinner. It was amazing. The shrimp tempura was so delicate. The dipping sauce was the perfect accompaniment. Filet and hanger steak was out of this world and so tender. Rice perfectly cooked and the sushi was a marriage of flavors and textures. The service was top knotch! He was attentive without being over bearing and knowledgeable about the entire menu. Many thanks from Discover Ames!

Met here with some of the young families constituents on spy weapons and spy gear. Had a great time with my own colleagues on a work trip. They were from missouri/Arkansas and im from NH / Boston area.
Excellent cousine, clean and fresh fish.

Yakiniku sampler is a must-have! Meat and veggies are fresh and fantastic quality, and portions are sized just right for the price. Atmosphere is sleek and contemporary, with a modern take on traditional elements. Great for date night!

Despite being very busy after a PAC show, we were still able to sit in the bar area (which has high top tables) and get our food and out the door within an hour. Sushi was good, not the best I have ever had but still pretty good. Hibachi is also pretty good. Atmosphere is great – very fitting and clean. Price is a little bit on the higher end but I think it is justified.

We are regulars, have been for years. Absolutely love the food there and rarely ever any issues. But today was an experience that I felt needed to be addressed. Super disappointing. My daughter was picking up an order so I called to add a small order. Was told it would be 30-45 min. Said id call right back to see if she could wait for mine too. I called back and within FIVE minutes it went from 39-45min wait to THREE HOURS wait. She was there…said it wasn’t that busy yet. And HOW in 5 min could the wait go up another 2 1/2 hours. Im sorry but that 5 min, actually less than 5 could not make that much of a difference. We were just there last Friday and an incredible as usual experience. This time…super disappointed and dont believe that changed that dramatically in that 5 min. Pretty sad. Needless to say she got her order but I didn’t get mine.

I normally don’t give reviews but I’m very disappointed in the service my group and I had on Saturday, December 6th, I felt like I needed to give a review. A group of friends and I have gone to katsu ya for my birthday for the past 5 years and have had great experiences, except this year. First off our drink service was poor. Twice during our dinner I personally was waiting for a drink, and I know one other person in our group was waiting 20 for theirs, which was just a soda not even a bar drink. I never asked the rest of our group if they had experienced similar. When the chef came out and reviewed our orders one was missed, where filet was brought out instead of the upgraded angus which was ordered, minor problem and in itself wouldn’t be an issue but becomes noticeable with all the other poor service. When being served dinner I was only given 4 pieces for my angus steak. I don’t say anything and didn’t want to ruin the fun being had by the rest of the group but after dinner 2 more in our group had experienced the same, only have 3 to 5 pieces of the angus steak. Then when served the chicken it felt undercooked and I was nervous eating more after only a few pieces. Also one person in our group had the sea bass, and a frequent eater of sea bass and when served his fish he didn’t eat any looking at it saying it was definitely undercooked. Lastly at the end when dessert was brought out the fun one with the sparkler was given to the wrong individual for my birthday, which was funny in the moment and pictures were taken of the funny mistake, but really showed how inattentive our server was. For my 40th birthday I was embarrassed for suggesting katsu ya for the restaurant we go to. I even told my wife that’s night after dinner when it come around next year I’m going to have to really think where we should go, where in the past that was an easy decision.

We have not been here in a while, we always got the yakiniku and let just say we won’t be back anytime soon. Portions got smaller, menu changed and is very minimal. Quantity is less, we use to be able to feed 5 of us with the same price. We spent well over $100 and we were STILL hungry. Sushi went down hill, our making rolls were falling apart and didnt taste the same. Definitely not worth it anymore.
Service was nice.
