Went on a Sunday and it was super busy. Seating is seat yourself so there was a bit of a wait for our table but it was worth it. The food, cheeseburger and sugar burger delux was really good. The service, top notch. Our waiter checked on us plenty even though it was packed in there. Excellent place to stop!

Sugar Shack of the Black Hills is a jewel in this area. The food and service cannot be beat anywhere nearby. Always, always hot and fresh, with a great daily special during the week. We bring our visiting family and friends because SS never disappoints. Even on the cold, dark nights of winter the staff here is always tops. Always friendly and you won’t go away hungry.

Dined here tonight and the food was ok. However, after we had finished our meal, we decided to hang a few extra minutes in order to watch the end of a football game. Apparently, our waitress did not appreciate that. With the game close to ending, our waitress turned off the TV without saying a word to us. No request to leave, not even a courtesy comment, she just simply turned it off and walked away. It was INCREDIBLY RUDE. We had been there maybe less than 5min after receiving the To-Go food we ordered in addition to the meal we enjoyed.
I do not think I have ever left a bad review before, but our experience tonight merited one. We are extremely off put. We even honestly would have left if we had been kindly asked.

This place has a Cafe Grill vibe. There is indoor and outdoor seating. Seemed like a great place to stop for bikers, 4-wheelers the Polaris crowd or just those exploring the Black Hills.
We had a burger and fries and a brat with saurkraut (like what you get from a jar – very tangy). The burger was ok but the fries were horrible. They were rubbery and hard with no flavor. Brat and saurkraut were good enough.
Nothing special about this place.
The waitress (wish I had caught a name) was rude and not at all helpful. Although the young blonde man that helped at the register was very friendly.
Would I go back? Doubtful.

any review prior to it’s re-opening is obsolete. the new place is terrible. absolutely overpriced for incredibly mediocre food. not to mention awful, unaccommodating, rude service. in all fairness, i had the same waiter prior to the fire and she refused me when i asked if it would be possible to get the wings with flats only, but at least that time the kind cook overheard and he said it wasnt a problem and served flats only, as i requested. tonight my friend asked if it would be possible to get a single onion ring on his burger. the menu had an option for burger add-on’s and he would’ve happily paid a fair price for a comparable option but again this lady instantly shut down his request without explanation or any offer of solution. she simply said it wouldnt be possible. i mean, at least have some customer service and say he could order a side of onion rings, which you serve.. before the fire it at least had a genuine feel. now it’s just a bland, generic, strip mall quality restaurant. i will stick to lewie’s, pizza lab, and mustang sally’s from now on when we head back from terry peak each week.. this place serves a 3 star hotel quality bacon cheeseburger for $20.. not to mention how do you have a restaurant named “Sugar Shack” without a single desert item? i used to rant and rave about this place, any time we had friends or family in town it was a must visit. we wont be back. 2/3rds of our group felt ill from eating here

After living in the Black Hills for nearly 9 years, I finally had my first Sugar Shack experience, and it was wonderful! We quickly found a table and our server, Sophie, took our orders as soon as she could. Despite being loaded with other diners and bikers (duh, rally is starting up) she was very quick to get our orders in and brought them to us even quicker. The interior is very loud, but conversation wasn’t too difficult.
The burgers and fries were EXCELLENT.
We can’t wait to return and try breakfast!
EDIT, 4 MONTHS LATER: We finally got to try breakfast! Four of us got there about 9am, and being a Sunday, we expected a wait, but were pleasantly surprised to find a table immediately! Our server was attentive and food came out quickly. Everything was tasty, but my only negative point is that the Sugar Shack Scramble was a bit on the smaller side. Regardless, we all left with full stomachs and will certainly be back!
